oh MY! I will buy a bunch of those trucks - and convert them to 'Streets. Lovely!
Interesting how Atlas is getting into high-end die-cast vehicles. Curious what the dealer 'discounted' price will be.
The trucks in the announcement have been out for sometime under TWH/Sword Models. The company TWH/Sword makes hi-end museum quality vehicles like the Freightliners. The also produce exceptional replicas of Oshkosh heavy duty vehicles, along with modern Pierce and Seagrave fire apparatus, also with an 'exceptional' price.
I really can't justify purchasing one of those, and then 'kitbashing' it.
Those Trainman bulkhead flats are very nice and can be found for around $40 each. I like these cars and look as nice or nicer than most other freight cars out there- other than the Master series of Trinity hoppers and tanks
Those trucks are amazing, but I doubt I could spend $79 on something like that when the detail wont ever be seen.
Lee,
I'd love to see one of those rolling down that country road!

So would I, and I will, eventually . . . after I get several.
I’m happy for you guys liking these items.
As for me, Atlas hasn’t provided anything new I would like to have in several years now.
The high prices don’t justify anymore even for a must have item either.
Very nice but a bit pricey evan at dealer discounts, too bad they are 1:50 scale ,the only thing in the diecast market that is 1:48 are airplanes [go figure] I am on a dealers email list and some of these models are quite expensive.
You know things are getting tough when the new product announcement generating the most excitement is a model of a truck tractor. Yeeeeesh.
I'm beginning to think Atlas should just get back to HO and N as the company has just recently announced and/or delivered some great new locomotives in both scales.

Well, seeing the traditional Lionel Erie-Lackawanna Derrick car is 45 bucks, 50 bucks for a 62' scale length bulkhead car isn't so bad after all.

I came across this old notice on Atlas' RR site, regarding their purchase of Walthers' structure tooling...
http://www.atlasrr.com/News/wa...oscale-buildings.htm
Anyone know if they are planning to reissue any of the Walthers' 2D type structures?
I'm not sure exactly what they're called, but I've been looking for some of those building facades Walthers made under their O-27 Cornerstone line to add some depth without taking up too much real estate. The list of structures available under 'Atlas O' seems pretty sparse.
Thanks,
Robert
Well,
I guess I could wait around until early 2014 (fourth quarter 2013 should work out to be late first quarter 2014!) for the new 40 ft steel reefers to come in and ask Atlas for replacement truck bolsters. I may have to order the IC and PFC Reefers.

what SIRT said
Atlas O makes great CZ cars. The other stuff . . . Doesn't do much for me. New F3's every two years. Zzzzzzzzzz
Scrappy
Double ditto on what Sirt said...I'm done with Atlas....there is just nothing coming from them that I am remotely interested in.
Chris
We have these on our web site, take a look at the following link https://www.thetrainshop.com/catalog/view/atlas-o
It is most unfortunate that Atlas O has sort of fallen off of the map,so to speak. A couple of years ago their monthly offerings would have 3 pages of responses. What a difference now. I think that they have made a huge mistake with the way that they are introducing those CZ cars, especially when Golden State makes so many blue ribbon passenger consists during the same time. I have a good bit of Atlas:track, engines, and rolling stock, but Atlas is rather uninspiring now. Too bad.

When people don't buy them, the prices will drop until they sell.
This offering has left me a bit cold. The truck and trailers, while nice, are too modern for my purposes. The low bulkhead flats are an interesting variant.
wow?
My reaction as well. No excitement in this outing, at least here. All the reefers have been done before, if not by Atlas than scale Lionel versions. Already have all the bulkhead flats I need, the Lionel scale ones with real wood decks. And no interest in tractor trailer rigs for $150.
There's still a lot of older Atlas stuff I'd like, though.
I have several of the 1:50 scale trucks manufactured and marketed by Sword Models as DaveP said above. I have the three truck set of Schneider National trucks and the detail on them is outstanding, however, I have no plans to add any others to my collection. I bought mine when they first came out and were priced around $100 on the bay. The cab detail is unmatched in any semi model I've seen but with the roof on you can't see any of it.
When Jim Weaver died a couple of years ago, so did Atlas O, in my opinion. I don't see anyone at this juncture who is able fill his shoes.
Atlas O was already experiencing mfg probems when Jim passed away, the factory situation has been at the center of this issue and now that Atlas has been forced to farm out their production the process of getting up to speed has been a very slow go, witness the Tman GE-8 with no eta.
If you are keen on the modern trucks they look like re releases of existing models. You may find some already on line for about half the listed prices. Search Tonkin/Sword and Trucks N Stuff 1/50 scale and some in 1/53 Scale.
Picked up a trailer like the ones shown for about $30 last weekend at a local shop.
They had a bunch at some past NMRA convention shows and lots of other types of trucks and trailers.
I have a bunch the details are great do some searching on line and you will come up with a lot of variety. Here are a few of them;
I'm also done with Atlas. They have priced me out of the market. I also would prefer 1/43 or 1/48 scale trucks only because the 1/50 trucks look so small next to all my 1/43 cars. I would think that some die-cast company could do some good business with 1/43 vehicles.
They wouldn't need to be super detailed, just make them in the 40's, 50's and 60's time frame.
Personally, I'd prefer the guys making the 1:50 trucks make some cars to go with them. Scale trains are over the top of my budget for the most part.
1:50 cars would match up far better than oversized 1:43, which I avoid studiously.
This last announcement is as exciting as watching paint dry.
I agree with the over-priced part. I do like their products but that's just a bit outrageous for a Trainman flat car.
