Thanks for doing this.
Thanks for posting them.
Here are several painted X23 and related design models. PRR's R7 reefers were sold to Fruit Growers Express in the 1930's and a few lasted into the 1950's. Most X24's were rebuilt into K7a stock cars in the 1930's as their relatively low interior height restricted their utility for carrying automobiles. The NX23 war emergency cabin cars were rebuilt from X23 box cars during WWII. After the war most NX23's were modified for MOW service - but 7 were listed as active cabin cars in a 1957 PRR report.

Now this is great!
Thanks Ed
Great thread!
Looks like a lot of work but the end result is really nice!
keystoned ed thanks for posting the painted cars they look great. now i need to get out the airbrush and add color to these cars...........
Ed, Thanks for posting photos. I like the red color that you have used. Seems like the earlier PRR box cars often get painted in the light oxide red. Do I note black (car cement) roofs ?
the historic anecdotes about X23/X24 use is very useful, thanks you Ed.
Have always loved the R7 reefer, since laboring on an HO gauge Ambroid 1 in 5000 wood kit for this car, as a 12 year old in the 1950's. One was located in the Pennsy coach yard south of Chicago Union Station into the early 1960's, visible fron CB&Q commuter trains. Suspect it was in passenger ice service. The war emergency cabin car is nifty, too.
