Built a little larger temp track to test the pull strength of my new Yoder 44-tonner. Was surprised that it could handle 9 Atlas tank cars. I would have tried one or two more 8,000 gallon tankers if I had them, but 9 seems to be pushing it as it is. Plus I like the look of these smaller tankers going around tight 36-inch radius curves.

Dear Jay,

The horsepower on the GE's was 390. The Yoder model of the loco for it's ability to pull 6-9 cars on level trackage is right on with the prototype.

The PRR owned 46-largest order for one railroad- with the idea of replacing the A5s 0-4-0 loco one for one which quickly proved a failure as the A5s could pull a long string of freight cars down Delaware Avenue in Philly  compared to the 44tonner 6-8 car maximum.

The main reason this loco existed in my opinion was the railroads ability to only have one man crew on any loco 44 tons or less.

John
