If you went to York, did Lionel discuss their newly cataloged "CAB-1L"?

6-37147 | Price: $0.00

Everything you need to start operating in the Lionel Command Control environment – and an economical way to add operators when running trains with friends!

Whether you want to access the basic features of the LEGACY Control System or operate you older TrainMaster Command Control (TMCC) equipment, the CAB-1L remote controller allows you to walk around your layout while controlling your layout. The Base-1L receives signals from the remote and sends your commands across the layout.
If you already have a #992 LEGACY Base (6-14295), you can simply add one or more CAB-1L remotes to your existing LEGACY layout.

If you are looking to get started with the LEGACY Control System, these components are an affordable way to start unlocking many of Lionel's celebrated features.

Only one Base-1L is required per layout, even if you use multiple remotes.

Jon discussion in my opinion was vague and its a work in progress, I went to the Lionel booth and the Legacy breakfast where one could see and hold the remote, it has no antenna like Cab 1 ,it will operate TMCC or Legacy engines by setting mode of operation, you will add a legacy engine by pressing a number code which will add the data to the system, so Legacy engine modules will become obsolete, upgrades to the system will be added thru the port on the Cab 1L base port or if you have the 990 or 993 Legacy system its base using the black module. Feels like a Cab 1, its blue not grey,Price point to be determined(set of remote and base or remote, base separate), anybody else remember anything else?

It runs both TMCC and Legacy engines just fine. It connects directly to the Legacy Base or the cab-1L base, not the old base

If that price is accurate, I don't know why they bothered!  For not that much more you can have the full Legacy system.

(though hopefully it will at least have an official price announced before it's fate is determined)

Of course if Lionel quoted the $240, that's most likely MSRP(of which the latest for a Legacy 990  set is $350), C Ro is obviously street price, so the difference will probably be more than $20.  Using the same math for a discount percentage, it would be maybe around $180, which might be attractive to some folks.

I think the CAB-1L is intended as a replacement for the CAB-1, for users who have mainly TMCC engines, aren't all that interested in Legacy advanced features, and/or don't want to deal with the size, weight, complexity, and lousy ergonomics of the CAB-2. If all you want to do is run trains and play with the whistle, the CAB-1 fits your hand a lot better than the CAB-2. At a street price 50 bucks or so below the full Legacy system, I think it would have a significant market niche. Obviously, so does Lionel.
