I run my UP Double Diesel 20-2432-1 at large noisy shows and need a replacement speaker with lots of volume. The current speaker has static in the sound. Speaker is 16 ohm 5w 50mm dia. Star NR-05009-01. Mth replacement is Asane? LSOFC-16-8A10R - 16ohm 50mm $18. Should I get this speaker or is there a louder on I can pick up at York? I am leaving very early Sed so I would like a suggestion today. Thanks a lot. Bruce

A speaker does not determine volume. The audio amplifier on the sound board determines that.
A speaker can have an effect on volume, but like Rich says, the amp will clearly be much more significant. However, an often overlooked improvement in volume and sound in general is a good speaker baffle. The difference in sound volume and quality with and without a proper baffle has to be heard to be believed.
Forum members I purchased 2 different speakers. The MTH replacement, number BF0000033 - expensive and a different manufacture then the original MTH speaker, and a Stetron 02 12 D0050016FP035A from Parts express for less then $8. Both fixed the static coming from the original MTH speaker. I hooked up each speaker to the engine and listened to the horn / bell / freight sounds on each speaker. The Parts express speaker was louder then the replacement MTH speaker - looked better built and had a bigger magnet. Rich yes the main limit for volume is the power from the sound amplifier, BUT a bigger high quality magnet and better design will give more volume with the same power from the amplifier. Thanks Bruce
The speaker and baffle are typically MAJOR contributors to sound quality and volume.
