I'm contemplating just going to the York Meet on Saturday as I can't take off, Are booths still setup or is everyone gone already? I mostly shop in the dealer halls. Any insight would be great.
Thanks

Yes, things are still set up since the meet doesn't close until 2pm, I believe. However, people will start slowly packing up around 10/11am, so I'd get there right at opening (9am) if you can.
Get there when the doors open and put your track shoes on. Yes, if this is the only day you can make it, I would go.
three & a half drive each way just for Sat. not worth it.
It is to me!
Just to take the day out and hit at least the Orange Hall, is a no brainer to me.
I get to see the MFGs displays and maybe a couple of their presentations, look up some of my favorite dealers, even if not buying anything.
And who could pass up the Charm, and Warped Humor of Mike Reagan!?!
Plus, I want to thank Phil and his staff for getting my new PRR ES44AC back to normal so I can run my 4 Engine MU. (Plus check with Phil to see if productivity increased due to the sugar in the Peanut Butter Fudge I dropped off in Sept)
Definitely worth a trip but as mentioned be there at the opening. If you have never been, get up EARLY and go. The crowds will be smaller and the sellers have had enough fun from the previous days so that they are very willing to negotiate a lower offer. Just be ready for some folks packing it in earlier than scheduled. Again, if you have not been to York be sure to check out 'Clem's Primer' (do a search for it) so you have a good idea of what to expect and where to go.
It's strictly a personal decision. What you may do at one point in your life, you may opt to pass on in later years.
Years ago, I would have driven out to York on Saturday in a heartbeat if it were my only chance to get out there. Today, after 20+ Yorks under my belt, I'd probably just wait until April, if Saturday were the only day I could visit this time. April comes around very quickly!
If you decide to go only on Saturday, plan out your visit accordingly. 3-4 hours goes fast, and by 12Noon dealers will start packing in one way or another. By 1PM you may only see a fraction of things on some of the smaller dealers' tables -- just so they remain within York TCA guidelines of not vacating their tables "too early". Even some of the larger dealers may start loading their trucks early -- especially those along the outer perimeter of the Orange Hall where their trucks are just outside their booth-space.
Probably best to just stick to the Orange Hall, and perhaps a short run over to the Purple Hall (with a quick peek into the Brown Hall while walking past it) if you have the chance.
Saturday is tremendously quiet and void of the buzz and excitement factor that's so much a part of Thursday and Friday. So you'll have no trouble moving the aisles quickly.
For those folks staying in the York area for the entire weekend, you should drive by the fairgrounds on Sunday... just to see that there will be absolutely no evidence that there was ever a huge train show there the prior 3 days. Very empty / anti-climactic feeling... like the circus has packed up and moved on to the next town in the blink of an eye.
Have fun on Saturday if you decide to go!
David
Thanks for all the insite guys. Now you make my decision to wake my two boys up at 5AM and hit the road from Long island so we are there before 9 a lot easier. Hope all have a good show!
I would do it! No question......even if you just do the Dealer Halls, it's worth it!
Peter
Go for it.
just going to the dealer hall is probably better than must other train shows! If you still have time you can check out some of the other halls (if you have your running shoes on!). Don't miss the layouts if you're bringing the kids!
Why not drive over Friday evening?
Bill
Found some of my best deals on Saturday. If it's the only day you can make it then go for it you won't be dissapointed.

According to the latest forecast (always subject to change this far out, of course), Saturday may be the nicest day of the show next week!!! Looks like a rainy/showery pattern throughout much of the week.
