This past winter I had a older (maybe early 70's) man tell me all about his giant collection and how neither his children or his grandchildren wanted anything to do with it when he dies. I very politely told him that I was a lifelong Lionel collector and he could leave his collection to me. He got very insulted by my request and stormed away.

Probably because he interpreted that as meaning you were expecting that they just be given to you without paying any money for them.

For those of you who don't care about what happens with your stuff let me say this:
You guys are being just a little callous IMHO!
I have no family, no wife and no children. I am all alone. What's left of my relatives live in distant cities. None of my relatives want or need any of my things. I really do not care what happens to my train collection.
Well, looks like I was mistaken thinking that my attitude was unique. Now, all you guys planning on selling, will you just wait 'til I sell all my stuff please
