Youngstown Model Railroad Association 2018 Open House

Two excellent layouts and great photos. Thanks for sharing Allan, I'll have to check out their site tonight when I get home.

I may try to make it back again this coming weekend since it will supposedly feature a military theme. Besides, a couple more hot dogs and a couple more bags of popcorn will just add to the fun.

I would have added captions to the photos, but really didn't have the time. That first shot shows my friend, YMRA President Jim Pope (in red shirt) being interviewed by a reporter from the Youngstown State University newspaper. And the last shot is the original store sign from Amer's Hobby Shop, the source of my start in O gauge model railroading. A good many of my boyhood Lionel trains came from Howard Amer's shop.

Maybe OGR could have a little feature about the trip out there. Suppose it would be well after everything occurred before it went to proofing though? Still, it would be a great story for anytime of the year, don't you think?

We did a full feature on the O scale layout some years ago. It was written by my good friend, Jim Marter (see the next to last photo in the series), who unfortunately passed away just before the issue was printed. Jim was a long-time and much beloved member of that club. I forget the Run number the article appeard in, but I will look it up.

I will also do an updated "Return Trip Ticket" photo tour of the layout once the new additions and changes are complete, including a new roundhouse and new scenic features, as well as that whole new area that can be seen beyond the yard in one of the photos.

I visited several years ago, and recognize some of the scenes.  Both layouts were well done as Allan's photographs show.  I should go back.  This coming weekend I'm going to the Monroeville Greenberg show, so I have marked the YMRA on my calendar for December 1st.
