I don't know if this is the right forum, and I did attempt a search of topics. I use one of the accessory outputs on my Z4000 to power up my Lionel switch machines. Had a derailment last night and now the accessory output is dead. I can't find any circuit breakers and the instructions are no help at all. All other outputs are just fine. I thought the Z4000 was self protecting with breakers. Did I kill my Z4000?

On the Z 4000, circuit breakers for the accessory posts are on the side of the main housing in front by the wire ports, they will show white if tripped just tap them and power should return.
There are two little circuit breaker buttons facing toward each end behind the handles. See if the are tripped.
The operating manuel for the Z-4000 does not show the location of the circuit breaker reset button.
Nor is there a specific section explaining the function of these breakers
This is a major oversight in my opinion.
Thanks, I'll take a look.
Sorry for your miss fortune Dick,I just ordered the Z4000 and this is great to know.Hope you got yours fixed.
I found the breaker rocker switches and one was tripped showing white. But I can't get it to reset. Tried pushing several different directions and it's just kind of loose unlike the other one. Looks like maybe the breaker is bad? I guess I'm going to have to try to figure out how to get it someone who knows something about Z4000's. It's been a good transformer up until this.
Dick:
If you did the reset with power on, do it with power off. Make sure nothing on the accessory is bent, causing another short.
If no luck, I would confer with folks here and your local train store for their ideas.
Ultimately, may require a call to MTH on Monday. I assume they are open (it's Veteran's Day).
That's how I would do it. Others may have suggestions that are better than mine....
Good luck and let us know what the solution is as it may help others in the future.
Thanks. I tried it with the power off. Maybe I'll try it with the power on. And yep, I'll call MTH.
Did you check where the derailment occurred for other things out of the ordinary? Does the turnout still work?
We have two of our Z4000's in this condition and we were never able to figure out how to reset it. Hopefully you will get it resolved and let us all know.
It is possible the circuit breaker went bad. The part number is BB-5100001 4 Amp. I have not replaced one so I am not sure how difficult it would be. Hopefully you have a local repair tech. You need a long 3mm allen key to remove screws and get case off. G
Thanks, I'll check out the part and what it takes to replace it.
GGG,
My transfromer comes apart but uses Torx screws. Are others different using Allen heads?
Joe
Joe, I don't know. Manual calls for allen. Have not had to repair a Z-4000 yet. Torx would be easier, since those screw drivers seem more readily available. G
