Z4000 acting strange

I turned on my Z4000 and instead of showing volts to the track, it looked to me like amps. That is because the volt display number on both sides started about 1.4 and as I increased the handle, the numbers went to 5.6. At that point there was some power to the track but nothing ran.
I do not have an explanation. I even disconnected the connections to the track and I still did not get voltage readings. Never saw that before.
Have unplugged the unit and plugged back in but get same result.
Anyone else experience this and if so how do you fix?
