Strange issue, if I leave the command base off I can run the ZW in conventional mode with levers. When I plug in the command base first then turn on the ZW, track 1 works in conventional mode using the CAB1 and Track 4 automatically starts in TMCC mode applying 18v to the track. I have try codes to put track 4 back into conventional mode with no luck. Any ideas?

If a command signal is present when you turn on the ZW, track 1 (A) and 4 (D) should stay at zero volts even with the handles turned on full. While track 2 (B) and 3 (C) will immediately come up to what ever voltage their handles are set at. 1 and 4 are normally for track and 2 and 3 are for accessories, so this logic makes sense.
So track one is actually working in TMCC mode. The CAB-1 can control the voltage as long as the handle is turned on. There is some problem with Track 4, unless you have the terminals confused. Try a rest. G
I called Lionel service thd it sounds like I have a scrambled $25 PIC chip or need a $160 motherboard replacement for the ZW. I am going to try the $25 option first
Is this a new ZW, or something that you have had running properly before but has now started to act up?
It's about a 2002 model that has been in a closet for the last 8 years. My father always had some issues with it, but part of that was due to layout wiring.
