My ZW roller arm for A terminal travels waaaay past the end of the windings and is stuck near the base of the transformer. This must have happened in 1989 when I last used it. What stops the arm from traveling so far?  B,C, and D arms are fine.

Also, I bought a ZW on eBay and replaced the power cord, rollers, circuit breaker, whistle diodes and binding terminals. It works great. Now I want to repair my ZW. How to I fix the roller arm from traveling so far?

Thanks,  Jerry

Thank you.  I think you are right.  I already removed the handle and all 4 tabs are intact, however, the handle was traveling too far past 20 volts. This happened when I was a kid 60+ years ago.  I have the stop pin in place. It only comes out about 1/8 inch. Maybe it needs to come out a little more. I must have forced the handle past the correct tab and it would not come back to 0 volts.

The proper way to remove the handle is with a 4X40 screw. It fits in a little hole in the center of the handle. When you screw it down, it pushes against the shaft and the handle slowly comes off.

Tomorrow I'll spend some time and see if I can get the arm to move correctly. If yes, then I'll replace the rollers, circuit breaker, terminals, and whistle diodes.  I should have two working ZW transformers; one for me and one for my grandson.

Thanks for your help,  Jerry

Do not do this. This is the wrong procedure.  In the end of the handle you will see a hole. In this hole is an Allen screw that is used to remove the handle. Screw the screw in and the handle will be jacked off. Prying on the handles with screw drivers will bend the aluminum spacer between the handle and the transformer. There is plenty of information on the web showing the proper procedure to remove these handles.

Thank you both.  I knew about the screw to remove the handle.  This morning I properly removed the handle with the 4X40 screw. It cost me 37cents at the local hardware store. I replaced all 4 common terminals, cleaned the inside of the transformer and it works fine. I will replace the power cord, circuit breaker, rollers and whistle diodes like I did on the eBay ZW.

P.S. I let my wife run the trains just in case.

Thank you all,  Jerry
