Didn’t Lionel make a Volt/ Amp Meter Unit to work on the Post War ZW ?? I’m sure someone has one they would like to sell!!

You need an AC meter.
They had them on a modern version and I think for a while you could have gotten the bezel etc. to add onto an old one. Might have been four voltmeters? (usually easier to find small gauges in volts).
You could get these for the old PW-ZW and the later ZW-C with the bricks. I was never impressed with the operation however. I sold my ZW-C with the voltmeter a couple years ago, I just use the bricks.
I have the newest one on the ZW-C, and one for the old ZW. They are good indicators of what’s going on, not totally accurate to my standards. As Dale M pointed out, the current reading is spread about the 4 channels since the design doesn’t isolate the channels electrically. They indicate changes though and near full voltage, the volts reading is fairly close...which is where I use them.
