for those that have already done this:

I need to disassemble my pair of Sunset E7A, in order to add more wipers to the trucks for better power pickup. I removed the 4 large screws at the fuel tank, 2 more in the rear, removed the pilot and the screw underneath it. I am having some trouble separating the body from the chassis and do not want to mar these gorgeous models with brute force

What's the trick?

You should have removed all the screws necessary to remove the shell.  There are 7 screws that hold the shell on.  3 on each side at each location you mentioned.  Front and rear of the fuel tank and two at the rear.  The last one is a small screw front center where the pilot is located.

When removed from the frame, the my shells narrow in the middle, which has the affect of placing pressure on the chassis around the fuel tank.  When back placed on the frame they will spread to the proper width.

The castings are somewhat soft so be careful.

Chris,

As Marker said, there is a screw in the middle at the pilot.  Once this is removed, take the thinnest blade screwdriver and insert it at the center of the arch at the front of the engine and gently pry it up.  I found this out by calling Sunset and asking.  I had the same quandry.  I hesitated to use brute force.

Good luck.

Ed
