It's an adjustment for me to use, but I think it's gonna be great as time goes on. The question is "Will i sit at the computer longer instead of working on trains?" It could happen! Then I'll have a dusty layout and the wife will complain "Whatta 'ya keepin this thing UP for, 'ya never get off the computer!!!!"

"It's for the cat to play on! Do you want your dining room back?"

Decisions, decisions...

First impression is I agree with VidKidz and LeavingTracks regarding the icons on the subject lines.

It's of course still early, and I have not looked into any settings that we may (or may not) have control over.

Noted that the site required me to input my email, not just my username to log in.  Pretty sure all the emails indicated we'd still be using our username to log in?

Lot's of my profile stuff was apparently deficient enough the new software didn't like it until I updated some of it.

(edit:and it looks like I picked the wrong thing for one of them based on the image that showed up - guess I'll maybe fix that)

I'm sorry to have to say this, but I find the new layout much less efficient to navigate than the previous format. It requires a tremendous amount of scrolling, and there's far less information placed on each page. The buy-sell forum is a real pain. Can't find anything easily. The sellers' names aren't even listed, so it's impossible to go back and find something by seller's name. Overall, I find the new format very awkward and far more difficult to use, and gives a far less efficient presentation of information.

Haven't gone through it all but it's looking good. One gripe however, is that I cannot see who listed the thread by name until I open the thread. I always liked that feature since when I see a topic posted from Vulcan, SIRT or Moonson among a few others, I know it's something I want to read/comment on.

Thanks Bob!!!!  I just reloaded mine and it seems "better" - if one chooses to use that word for my picture

In fact, I used as the raw image a way too big file and the software resized it for me.

Yes, that is one aspect of this forum platform that is different from the old forum, and I cannot change it. It is not something I have control over in my Admin Console. I also liked the main page displaying all the forums. We'll just have to get used to a different way of navigation.

After a few weeks, this will become intuitive..I hope!

This seems to be presented in the manner desired if you just click on the word "Forums" in the Header Bar instead of picking something from the drop down list.

edit: Oops.  Looks like I noted it after Rich changed it.....

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the way this style of forum layout presents information to the viewer.  I tend to prefer designs where the viewer can see LOTS of stuff, then chooses what they'd like to read more detailed info on.  This doesn't appear to be one of those designs.    So right now, the jury is still out while we all adjust to the new layout here.  Gut instinct tells me this is gonna take some "getting used to", since I feel like I'm not seeing as much info as we saw in the former forum layout... and what we do see here seems squeezed into a very narrow viewing column.

I have to say I am not impressed by the new forum.

There is much less information on each page... Less posts per page so it is more difficult to scan the topics for something I want to read.

The larger font and format feel like it is meant for either a child or someone who needs reading glasses.

A lot of wasted page space. Actually pretty poor web designing...

There is no need for the profile photos on each topic.

All in all this means I will spend a LOT less time on this forum.

I like everything except having to drill down into the Forum Categories as much as you have to. I think that once you go to Forums, you should see the main list like we used to, not just the four main categories and then have to drill down deeper then that.

Ohh yeah, and Signatures at the end of individual members posts, not just in the thread starter.

Other then this I think everything is great so far.
