Not quite sure if this is Real Trains, but didn't know where else to ask.

I've got a crazy idea to paint a [real] SUV in a prototypical locomotive scheme (probably Missouri Pacific Lowey Eagle colors).  No trailer hitch on the rear, perhaps a small coupler.  Any thoughts?  Anyone ever seen one?  I've Googled and can't come up with an image.

Years ago someone in my area painted his pickup the same colors as a Blue Comet passenger car. It could have been a coincidence but I seem to remember seeing Blue Comet on his bug shield or license plate. I don't think I'd do something similar. Railfans are definitely a minority and it would just look wierd to most people and not please me enough to bother.

There used to be (might still be haven't seen it for a while) a person where I work that had a truck (I think it was a pickup with a enclosed back, probably not an SUV) with Pennsy GG-1 stripes down the sides.  I'm not sure if the vehicle color was really tuscan, might have just been done on a red body.  Still caught my attention!

Hmmmm...I've started researching this - and thanks for the Foamers link!  As Hot Water mentioned, paint is permanent and would devalue the vehicle.  However, a vinyl wrap is doable - per the info provided, it protects the factory paint and is removable.  I did notice that my auto dealer wraps their courtesy cars (not locomotive style, but with dealer logos, names, number, etc).

I recall Neal Young had a motor home painted as a PRR GG-1 with stripes & decals. I don't know if he still has it.

One of the more elaborate graphic wraps I've seen would be the 55' trailer used to haul a quarter scale operational model of N&W 611, affectionately known as "Baby J".

Designed & built by Don Guill of suburban Cincinnati, this custom rig gets considerable attention whenever it's on the road or on display. In the summer of 2010, Don brought his "Baby J" to Roanoke for 611's 60th Birthday Party where most of these

photos & the short video were captured.

Additional information about Don & his quarter scale N&W 611 can be found HERE.

I have seen two, done like locomotives. A honda Rigeline with cap, in tuscan red with gold five stripe GG1 scheme and emblems. And a two tone grey dodge pickup with stripes for NYC also with correct emblems. Both looked professionally done.  I think a good match would be a ford Aerostar minivan as a Amtrak locomotive. I'm sure there are others.

That's cool.  I hope you do it.  For some time I have wanted to finish my solo canoe in a P40 Warhawk scheme.  Camo paint with a big Flying Tigers shark's mouth logo in the bow, and maybe their star on the stern.  I need to look into some decals some day and get that done.  Of course, an SUV is a far bigger commitment.  Go for it!

I don't know about the other one but the Warbonnet was a promotional vehicle made for Santa Fe.  The current owner found it setting in someones yard badly in need of restoration.  They talked and the former owner's wife wanted it out of the yard pretty bad so he got a deal on it.  It has all new Dodge 1 ton truck running gear under it now.  I can't find it but there used to be a TV segment about it on youtube.
