Hi, Bill. It was nice to meet you, too. GC stands for a family name. It represents a fictitious trackage agreement between the NYC and the Milwaukee Road between Chicago and the Twin Cities.

I do not have any articulates at this point, and don't have any plans to get any. If I were to get any, they would probably be smaller ones, such as a 2-6-6-2 Mallet or something similar. I know the NYC did have some of these.......

I will be attending my first York meet this week! To get me into the spirit of things, I have been working a lot on the layout in the last couple of weeks.
I finished the terrain for the hill/cut section. I was having trouble getting the hill to look right. Ended up using spray foam to fill in the gaps and carving that. It left some big air bubbles but those can be places for trees and then covered with bushes. I then proceeded to paint four of the six tables a flat brown as a scenic base where applicable (The other two tables are my yard area, which have not yet been touched by the scenery process).
The town area got all the roads painted a flat grey. The sidewalks got a nice concrete color I found in the reject section at Ace for $2.
Thats the work that I got done in preparation for York. Hopefully I can run trains after work tomorrow before hitting the road with friends. Hope everyone has a good York and look forward to meeting people!

Its time for another update! It's been a while.
Scenery work on the hill/cut section has come a long way. Lots of ground cover and bushes have been added. I like the Woodland Scenics clump foliage and fine leaf foliage. The fine leaf foliage looks very realistic as bushes with structure to them like you would see in a wooded area. Just yesterday I permanently attached the concrete retaining walls and bridge in place. The big trees are only in place temporarily--I was just playing around with them.
One of the biggest projects in the downtown area has been a large office building with storefronts (pharmacy & golf pro shop) on the first floor. The facade is three Ameritown Burke Building fronts with the rest all scratch built. Roof details, fire escapes, Rexall sign, fire hose hookups, and some other details still need to be applied, but it is getting there.
Here is a view of the main street with the buildings in place temporarily (as a mock-up).
Finally, yesterday I started planning out the train station and its surroundings. I didn't think I would touch this area for a while still, but with the town progress I thought the station should get some attention, too. I drew in some lines for the drop-off lane and the entry/exit for the station. Still needs some tweaking, of course.

Lots to commend you on.....the Burke Building multi-unit structure is great. The railroad cut with the highway bridge is spot on....and, you blended in a K-Line and a Plasticville Bank into your business district, seamlessly.

Your work immediately strikes me as well planned out. Of course some things pertaining to scenery are experimental and are more spontaneous than most aspects of the hobby. However, the things you have to be more concrete about have clearly been thought through, which ultimately provides a firm foundation for all of the creativity. Great work and please continue to show us your progress.

Harry, you have made nice progress. I too like Woodland Scenics foliage products! You have used them well. The large downtown building is looking great! I haven’t seen Rexall in my area in years. They used to be everywhere, but bought out I think.
Everything is looking great; this will be a terrific layout. I particularly like the large office building and your exposed rock faces. The stone looks like what we might call "Wissahickion schist" here in SE PA.
