MTH 11-6056-1 #261 Steam Engine w/PS3 will not run in DCS, conventional ok

Bruce did you try a feature reset too?

Did you load the sound AND chain files?  For the new boiler board, you need to load the chain files.

Update:  Tried loading the sound and chain files - no luck.  The Technician Loader program said"engine not on track".  Tried numerous times, even insured the serial cable is connected and active on com 3, no luck.   Double checked the switch positions on the Test Assy.

In reading the instructions for the PS3 test Assy. it says you can test the tender board - but it does not say if the tender board is connected to the test assembly without the boiler board.  My question is:  Can you test the tender board by itself?  I am guessing you can not.

Looks like thi 261 needs a tender board.

Bruce, that's what the "golden" board set is for, you use your "golden" boiler board with the suspect tender board.

Yes you can test the tender board separately, but it will only generate output the tender would have.  Does the Tender board have the DCS jumper installed?

Yes it is possible the Tender board is damaged and will not see DCS.  G

The tender board is the super cap version and there is no DCS jumper, I assume you mean the 2-pin P77 connector.

The tender does not have any DCS/DCC switch.

Double checked the board - no DCS/DCC jumper.  The box end definitely says Protosound 3.  Reading the description on the MTH web site it definitely says at the bottom of the description "DCC".  It does not mention DCS.

John - looks like you hit the nail on the head.  This locomotive operates either conventional or DCC.

You need the jumper to run DCS.  If it's a PS/3 board, it will run DCS with the proper configuration.

Checked the bottom of the tender board, near the heat sink, in a corner are 4 holes, where the jumper connector would be.  There NEVER was a jumper connector installed on that board.  My guess is that the locomotive was never run in DCS.  Awaiting to hear from the owner.

I double checked the jumper location with MTH  photos of the board bottom.  Next to the 4 holes is the word "Track"next to the heat sink.

The jumper is P77, it's to the left of the 4-pin plug labeled TRACK.  If that jumper is not installed, you are in DCC mode.  You need the jumper to run in DCS mode.
