Steam train returns to London Underground for the first time in a century to mark 150 years since the Tube was opened
Now I know the UK is progressive when it comes to running steam in this day and age, but letting it run underground in subway stations, wow! Can you imagine trying that over here?

My mother experienced the London Blitz 1940-41.
She signed up for military service in the WRENS when she turned 18 in 1940.

Awful tragedy that I had never heard of. Reminds me of the Canonsburg Theater Panic. A similar situation that is thought to be the origin of the old urban legend/safety warnings about shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater.
I believe what makes this event an even sadder occassion was that the siren was not for a real air raid but a test, a real waste of life.

I might have to go back there and see that. Meanwhile, mind the gap.
