White Castle’s imitation, White Tower, used to be in Pittsburgh.  There was one at the light between the 16th Street Bridge and the Heinz Plant when I was in college.  That was over 45 years ago, though!  Ouch!!!  I don’t know when they closed.  I never ‘dined’ there however.  I was always in a hurry to get outta town!

White Castles still here in Michigan and back in the 60's we also had Top Hat.  On 8 mile and Gratiot they were on across the corner from each other so we had a big choice there when cruising (drag racing)  Gratiot or 8 mile back in the days in my 58 Chevy or my 65 GTO.  Girls, Girls, Girls and that was a time when the trains meant nothing to me because it was GIRLS.  8 mile road was a major thru fair to the famous Woodward for more girls and drag racing.

p51, significantly fewer number of passenger cars (7) and no dedicated baggage car on this one. Pre pandemic they were about twice that number of cars. I guess people still aren't traveling as much yet with Covid still hanging on. I caught the Coast Starlight in Santa Clara, CA and posted in this thread a few weeks ago and same smaller version. Found a few historical railroad displays during visit to Texas this past month. These were found while visiting my youngest during USAF BMT - Basic at Lackland AFB and Tech school at Sheppard AFB. His first post is at Cannon AFB, Clovis NM. Looking forward to visiting the old Clovis station and train spotting there.

Every year, CSX and Kansas City Southern are contracted to move an Army logistics division from Louisiana (cannot remember where) to Fort Eustis in Virginia. On the CSX Peninsula Sub to the base, these moves are a big deal not only because they are a break from the monotony of coal and Amtubes, but also because they usually draw KCS run-through power. The past two years when I have seen the move, the train featured KCS SD70ACes (including one of the former EMD Demo units), a KCS ES44AC, and a CSX CW40-8 in the older, rapidly vanishing YN2 paint.

Found this 'locomotive' in parking lot at a local Lowes store.

I live in an area where enthusiasm for University of Michigan sports, particularly football, is rabid, and at times way over the top.  This "locomotive" reminds me of the craziness that the some ardent college football fans bring to the table.

I've seen everything on cars, trucks, trailers, and boats (here all painted and decorated around Michigan's Maize and Blue), but never a railroad equivalent, until now.

Speaking of Maize and Blue, how about a Pere Marquette or C&O diesel version?  Anyone?

I nominate PM E8 No. 98 as the prototype.  It might be nice stretched out along the side of a Class A motorhome ...

Mike, I am really in the slow group!    65 years after having seen my first color photo of a Pere Marquette E7, it had to be pointed out to me that the colors were chosen because of the University of Michigan.  Thanks.

I posted this photo a few years ago, but it's a perfect photo of the Panhandle of Texas today, April 6, 2022 -- windy, cool, and very dry.  Our flags are fully unfurled right now, and there is not a cloud in the sky.  This was taken at Hereford, Texas, in January, 2018, on the Hereford Subdivision, which runs from Amarillo to Clovis, NM.  Coal trains aren't numerous, and they are something different from the parade of intermodal trains.  There is a power plant at Joseph City, AZ, which receives coal routed this way.

Thanks- I shot a video too (or so I thought), of the train passing by. When I looked after taking the photos I realized that my phone had a brain cramp and didn't start recording..... Too bad because they had a really crusty looking MP-15 as the trailing unit.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, the LIRR is raising a bridge just east of where I took this photo this summer. Should have lot's of good MOW and construction shots to share.

This was posted yesterday by Caltrain in the SF Bay Area. The first two 7 car sets of electric Trains arrived. This video was taken from the Santa Clara University Train Depot at 2:00am March 20, 2022. They're all nice and shiny, even the UP GE AC44C6M pulling them is looking all fresh and shiny! The Electric trains are heading to the San Jose Caltrain railyard just another 1 mile south of the Santa Clara station. So the electric train sets are a little early as the overhead electrification will not be complete until late 2024. The usual cost overruns plus delays in deliveries due to the Covid pandemic have plagued the installation.

The “Caltrain First Electric Train Arrives” was shot with a fisheye lens. As you guys know I am a big fan of fisheye lens. Below is a screenshot from the video. Notice how the track is curved.

Here is a photo of a west bound Amtrak crossing a spider bridge in north central New Mexico (Apache Canyon). I took this a number of years ago with my bro-in-law who took me to this spot.  This was a several mile hike along the ROW in the July NM heat - it was a dry heat He was using a large format Hasselblad with B&W film, I had an Olympus with 35mm color film.  We snapped our photos nearly simultaneously. His image clearly shows overhead power lines running above the engine.  If you look closely you can just see the power/telephone poles on the cliff on the upper right. The B&W is more crisp and has better contrast than the color film.

I like this shot. I wonder what film you used. Back in the day, I switched to Fuji Film and was much more happy with the results / true color rendering. Pre photo shop days with stellar results IMO. BlaCk and white can be more “true” with results but I suspect the Hasselblad had a lot to do with the results. 😜

@TrainBub  I typically used Kodak 100 print film and on occasion 400 film.  I tried the Fuji and thought the colors looked too bright and a little unreal. A UV filter helped a little preventing the color tending to wash out.  This image is a scan of an 8x10 print. I have no idea on where my negatives are. I am finding my slides (ektachrome 64)  from the 80s are not holding up very well. The old black and whites are ok - chemistry is more stable long term. Now I have a 5 year old Canon Rebel  - I just have to relearn everything and use the capabilities of the camera.

For what its worth my bro-in-law John Lucas has his work published in RR calendars and articles.  Here is a link to a story in Trains which illustrates his work. I really like his the long distance telephoto shots with a low sun angle giving the image a "golden" look".  He was kind enough to get Howard Fogg to sign a numbered litho of his C&NW crossing the prairie near grain silos. Unfortunately the signature has faded and is barely recognizable. But it is a treasured item. And yes the Hasselblad and large format film makes a difference. But it still takes the photographer to frame the image. I was just happy our images had nearly the same framing. There are a lot of really good photographers on this forum.

Lastly,  while I can probably get his permission to post a few of his images, I do not think its the right thing to ask. And from what I have seen the forum may still remove the copyrighted images anyway. So I just post what I have taken.

Not true.  I have posted others' copyrighted photos -  I simply get permission, and then attribute the photo as the copyright holder wishes.  Moderators appear to have no problem with that.

Nice photo - where in NM?  I have flown over most rail lines in NM and Az.

@bob2  We started off out of White Rock (Los Alamos) and then drove a few hours, but honestly I have no recollection of exactly where. So I looked it up - Apache Canyon - lots of images of it on Google.  Our bottom up photo looks unique. 

BTW - Scale Rail left the forum because he said he received permission to post photos, had the documents to verify, but the forum still refused to post. He had many of his own which were taken down as well - which I saw. He just got tired of fighting and left.  I don't know the true details maybe I am spreading inaccurate info or things have changed since he left. He was a prolific poster and a loss to the forum.   

Nice signature notice at the bottom of your posts, obviously you "get" copyright law.

Hi Tom, fortunately the Caltrain yard in San Jose is tightly secured with a tall cyclone fence and security cameras. The are also automatic gates, and even the trains have to pass through gates. But the biggest deterrent is that the locomotives and passenger cars are serviced 24/7, so there are always employees and security guards at the facility! I’ve never seen a Caltrain with graffiti on it.

This statement is inaccurate!  We have repeatedly let members know that if they want to post copyrighted pictures, they have to have permission from the owner to do so and must provide that info to OGR.  You can not just "say" you have permission and then give credit.  The other alternative is to post a link to the picture...this is the safest way to avoid any questions.  Bob....you need to contact me with written proof that you have permission to post copyrighted photos otherwise you need to go to each of your posts and replace the copyrighted photos with links or delete those photos.

This is for every member:  If you post a picture and you took it, then state that you took it in the post.  If you didn't take it, then you must provide OGR with proof that you have permission to post it on our forum otherwise post a link to the picture.

The comment about Scale Rail needs to be addressed here so that the "other side of the story" is told.  "Scale Rail" was part of our "Section Gang" and as such knew our copyright policy.  Not one time did we receive copies of written permission to post copyrighted photos.  Several times he was contacted about this and yet persisted to post photos that were questionable.  If his photos were deleted, it was because it was not clear that he took them.  Again, we require members to provide written proof to OGR and then state in their post that they have permission to use the photo by the owner.  If you took the picture, we ask that you state that somewhere in the post.  If you still want to use a copyrighted photo in your post and do not have permission to do so, then use a link to the picture.  Pretty simple guys and it keeps all of us out of trouble.  I think some of you need to review our TOS.
