The train make up was CSX F40PH-2 numbers 1,2 and 3 in the B&O livery, long retired colors, pulling a whole host of passenger cars.

The B&O had a long history in the east and CSX painting them in this color scheme (Fallen Flag) makes it a great set of Heritage Units

Kinda cool seeing passenger cars on a freight line.

May 21, 2022 - West Nyack, NY. Our favorite CSX engineer Made the River Sub Great Again!

After working I032 to Northern, NJ apparently he some how got to Bergen to take B742 NB with 7233 & 3297 to Selkirk.

As B742 cleared a massive SB was in the siding making its way to CP22. That train took 12 minutes to go from the siding to the main at CP22. Didn’t have a scanner to pick up the 111train number, maybe some one has it and can let me know.

Welcome home DDD, the neighborhood hasn’t been the same since you run Philly now.

West of Denver , at the foot of the Rockies, we caught sight of a far-off tanker train in a spiral track arrangement.  After figuring out it was ascending we circled back on Colorado Rt 72 and caught a few videos.  The train later was seen stopped on the grade..... probably not in the day's plan.  Sat 21May 2022.  The problem with visiting the Rockies when you are planning a layout at home is that the mountain scenery can divert your plans !

Last month I was helping my wife chaperone  a group of high schools students to Hershey, PA. They toured to Milton S. Hershey Museum where they learned about Mr. Hershey (He made not one, but THREE fortunes!) and how milk chocolate is made. Afterwards, we boarded a trolley-bus for a tour of Hershey. One of the locations we visited was the new chocolate plant on the west end of town.

The first shot is our tour guide discussing various sights as we ride along.

The second shot is a Trackmobile switching a hopper car. (An unusual operation for me, but evidently quite routine for the plant. Note the brakeman riding the car.) All the cocoa beans and sugar arrive at the plant in this fashion.

I've learned not to ignore the Denver area forecasts.  The Thursday before this video it was +88F and then the place we stayed east of Denver Friday received 12" of wet snow , glad it wasn't "mine" to shovel !

Some May 2022 Wyoming area pictures of static display locomotives.  The BN diesel was part of a coal equipment display in Gillette, WY.  CB&Q engine #5631 is on display in Sheridan, WY.   The grassy area in front of 5631 is marked No Trespassing/BNSF so no close-ups.

CSX Yard - Dearborn, Michigan   March 6th, 2022 at 2:30 PM

This is the CSX Yard adjacent to the Ford River Rouge Complex, Final Assembly Plant. I drive a Ford F150 and this is the birth place. We are at the Ferry Street Entrance.

Across the street is the Dearborn Sausage Company and Woodmere Cemetery. I parked my F150 at the Dearborn Sausage and walked into the guest parking at the CSX Yard. I feel I can get more done when I travel by foot.

Caught CSX GP39-2 4309 (ex Reading, ex D&H). And CSX GP40-2 6100 (ex B&O). Still getting the job done! Working the yard in Wildwood Fl.

Here you have a southbound CTRail on the Hartford line, followed minutes later by Amtrak’s  Vermonter.  Both clips were taken from the platform in Windsor, CT.

5-28-22 Kirkwood Mo. (St. Louis County). Got to see new Siemens Charger and a surprise of new (to me) passenger cars. Regret too close for complete passenger car photo as train took off  

Not exactly "rail fanning" photos but rail fan photos! These were taken at the Amtrak Beech Grove Shops facility in Indianapolis on a 2 hour guided tour on a recent Saturday morning. A lot of restrictions where photos could be taken. So we got to shoot the "truck garden", the transfer table, and the exteriors of several buildings. This facility is OLD! 1907 dates in stone on several of the buildings. I think the NYC may have been the original owner? If not they owned it at some point in its existence. I have tried for years to get inside the facility so it was a great couple of hours for me.  Train ON!

The LIRR is nearing completion on the 3rd track through Nassau County. They are using a parking lot adjacent to the ROW to stage ballast.....

You are most welcome. Amtrak Beech Grove is probably going to be more difficult to get in to visit as they have had vandalism and an arson fire of clearly marked hazardous materials in the recent past. New, higher fencing and perimeter cameras will be installed. I'm a bit surprised this was not already in place but better sooner ......... The arsonist was caught and will be in prison for quite a while.

The Amtrak facility in Beech Grove did indeed belong to the New York Central, but they inherited from the Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago & St. Louis Railroad -- also known as the Big Four Railroad. They were headquartered in the Chesapeake Building downtown at 105 S. Meridian St., which is now a Hampton Inn.

Yes, the Big Four was BIG in Indiana! My former boss's father worked for them. I'm not sure public tours are really in the offing at Beech Grove. This was a special 20 person tour that the NMRA took months to get arranged and then it was almost cancelled as new Amtrak management came on board who hadn't been aware of the commitment already made. But if you ever get the chance get on board ASAP. The NMRA convention in Indianapolis had over 500 people show up and many were very disappointed that this tour was booked.

A few shots from a recent trip to Albuquerque on the train, and in search of semaphores.

The conductor of BNSF's Hahn local rides an ex-ATSF shoving platform past the Sunport RailRunner station. Normally, I think the local heads east around 8, but on the day I went in search of BNSF's Z-ABQWSP9, they were delayed slightly by RailRunner MOW folks working on a crossing just behind me.

An H3 SD40-2 backs the train toward a scrapyard.

In Santa Fe I stopped by the recently revived Santa Fe Southern, now known as Sky Rail. A relative with a connection to George R.R. Martin, fantasy author and part-owner, arranged a tour on one of the train's off-days. The Sky Rail trains include live music and bar cars, and include options such as evening stargazing excursions. SFS 93 is a rare GP16 of BNSF heritage, painted as an eagle by a local graffiti artist hired by the railroad.

Spirit the dog peeks out from behind the pilot of ATFS 2926, the almost-restored Baldwin 4-8-4 that is based in ABQ. On the day we went on the public tour, the volunteers were busy running a hydrostatic test of the locomotive preparatory to a steam-up last week.

It's taken me awhile to go through the photos, but here are a few photos from the Cassandra Overlook. Drove up from York Train Show for a Friday night sunset visit with the Mrs. Sat and watched for a couple of hours and not another soul in sight except for the engineers! Heard about the crossing on the forum and it is an awesome place to visit. Thankful for the tip. Great date night.

Took a road less traveled on the bike this afternoon, didnt look inviting but I found this.  I guess its one of the former NJT PCC cars.

Nice find, @necrails!!    I sure remember the Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit PCC cars in the beige and maroon before they started painting them in wild colors.  When going to college in the mid '70s I learned that the middle of those cars came right over the curb on some of the triangular corners Downtown.  What a surprise for a country boy!    Another time, I could have been hit by one when crossing the street.  Those triangular corners along Liberty Avenue were tricky to know which traffic light to watch as a pedestrian.  Once I crossed thinking I had the green, but realized my mistake mid crossing as a PCC car was barreling towards me.    I had to run.  I couldn't do it nowadays!  I have a RailKing ProtoSound in beige and maroon just to sit on the shelf to remind me of younger days.   

Two weeks after its delivery from Ft. Eustis, the freshly restored C&O caboose rests on its display track at Lee Hall Depot adjacent to the CSX mainline in Newport News VA.

There might be another one on this property,  i spotted something under wraps the had the shape of a pcc.  I guess time will tell.  FYI, the property belongs to a railcar company, somewhat off the beaten path on a road that was definitely not road bike friendly.  Ill drive past next time.   The truck drivers however were very accommodating.

Solo Loco - Plymouth, Michigan Today • Sunny & windy.

This is the CSX #6143 as a solo loco as it passes the Plymouth Depot, a popular coffee shop & ice cream store. When myself and Train Room Pam got married on August 17,1979. We purchased our first home six months later about one mile from this depot. Over the years a lot of different business have occupied this building. I was a train nerd & rail-fanner back than. 😎

Every model railroader started out rail-fanning!

This past Wednesday, I embarked on a road trip that’ll take me around the northeast. On Thursday, I stopped by the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton, and thanks to the help of fellow Burgher George Gula, managed to chase the Mt. Pocono main turn as far as Cresco. Here, ex-GE Leasing/BC Rail M630 3007, one of a few Centuries not repainted into GVT corporate colors, leads a C636, an M636, and an M630 up grade at Covington Township.

Those were at Grand Mound, just north of Centralia. This is the old MILW Main line out of Tacoma to Chehalis.

Nice catch on those ALCOs! It's been a while since I was in Scranton myself to see them.

This GP9 was parked with a line of grain hoppers just west of Gibson City this afternoon.

I am guessing this might be a former Wisconsin Southern Railroad (WSOR now WATCO)  as the paint scheme looks about right given the paint fading.

Ran across this Pere Marquette on historical display in Grand Haven Michigan.  I've seen the Big Boy in person but this one looks taller - really immense. Now I'll have to research Pere Marquette and dive deeper into the old Grand Trunk and Western. Plaques there said this was quite a hub for GTW in this location which included a turntable on the site all adjacent to the water way. (to the left of this image)
