I own this 1938 Bronze Streamliner 1689E.

The place where one of the side rod screws attaches to the wheel has sheared off - see left side of photo below. I was able to source another geared drive wheel. However I discovered that the replacement wheel has 8 spokes rather than 12 plus no opposing weight. They are also different on the back, but this won’t be seen.

What would you do? Would you fit the 8-spoked wheel and not worry about the difference or hold out and try to find a 12-spoked wheel as a spare part? I guess it won’t be obvious in motion.

Any suggestions for sourcing the part would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Thanks for those measurements. I'll be able to do some checks in some hours time. It's Monday morning here in Australia and I'm at work. As you can see from the photo, the 8-spoked replacement wheel I bought came with the rod already attached. However I should be able to work out a way to attach the rod to your wheel. Did you notice the old wheel had lots of cracks and metal fatigue? Well, it is 80 years old.

Thanks for the eBay link PD. It might be worth investing $1.96 for when the other side eventually lets go! Thanks for pointing out the difference in the casting on the back side Tom.

Stew, The original wheel measures 1.145 in diam & 0.432 in thick. That's 29.1mm diam & 11.0mm thick. If I counted correctly, it has 56 teeth on the back.

For the sake of interest, the 8-spoked replacement wheel measures 1.132 in x 0.404 in or 28.7mm x 10.3mm.
