I received a 1872 General from my wife for Christmas. On the cab where the metal rail goes in is a little melted and I wanted to repair it. My only problem is repainting it after the repair. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what color and type of paint to use. I already ordered the gold decals so once I fix the hole and repaint, it  should look good as new. Thanks.

Mike Thanks for for the advice but I went to a local hobby shop Saturday with the 1872 Cab in hand and found an identical match with Model Masters British Crimson. It matched the color of the 50 year old paint exactly. My 1872 is more of a maroon color than the red it started out as.I really didn't want to repaint the entire cab if I could help it. I repaired the small melted spot where the hand rail goes through the cab and touched it up with the Crimson Red and you can't tell there was ever a problem. I was amazed.
