Mark,

The drawbar looks good on the tender. Now that you can run the engine/tender with some cars, you can look around for a railsounds wireless tether tender that might cost you $75-$100 on the average. This way for the cost, you will have complete railsounds including chuff, whistle, bell. Instead of tinkering around with adding to the Williams tender, buy a complete Lionel tender.

Excellent suggestion Ted!

Anyone have one of these if so how do you like it. Just made a deal for one that's about as close to new as you can get for used .

My dad got one in the early 2000's and I can assure you that it's an amazing locomotive.  They are true workhorses! the only problem with them is that they have weak cowcatchers so if yours isn't already broken it will probably break at some point no matter how hard you try and keep it on. Other than that, in my opinion, they are some of the best locomotives lionel has made in the modern era and the whistle is truly amazing. Even though it might not be the most impressive locomotive in my collection it always finds its way onto my layout due to its reliability, and amazing whistle!

George,

Agree 100% about the mallet. Reason why I bought 2 of them and if I find the N&W version, going to buy that one as well. The C&O and the WL&E always find their ways on the club layout or at shows. Reliable and gave excellent sounds. Reason why I posted to Mark to find the matching tender, not worth tinkering around adding sounds to his Williams tender.

Thanks Ted

That's the plan...👍 🙂

I never had any intention of upgrading this Williams tender; I'm not really into "bells and whistles" per se, but it would be nice to have them as an option, so I will continue to look for an original replacement.

In the meantime, I can now at least run this thing...and it does so quite nicely. Very quiet and smooth. 😊
