2022 Volume 2 Lionel Catalog is finally up! Whaddaya getting?

Probably the Base-3 and at least one of the UP Heritage SD70ACes (I really want all 6)

I love the Strasburg Rail Road locomotives and rolling stock in this catalog but it is just a little too expensive for me.Other than that there isn't anything in there that I really want at this moment.

The Lehigh & New England L1 Mikado. A great looking loco and a reasonable price for an ex-MTH, mid-sized Legacy steamer. Well done Lionel!

Absolutely nothing. Nice to see those C.N. wood passenger cars, but Lionel doesn't want to see us Mid-westerners be tempted with Milwaukee Road etc. wooden passenger cars. But they are expensive.

New Haven 060T, perhaps GN NW2.  New Haven boxcar (Bangor & Aroostook).  Probably about covers it .

I have 2 SD70 Heritages now so 1 or 2 more .. Not a fan of the fantasy paint BUT I love the Chesse Greenbriar ..A lot .. so thats definitely on the list ..thats it for now

Probably leaning towards the fantasy C & O  Chessie Greenbriar.  I like them elephant ears.

Considering a Mogul (rumored special run). But, from the catalog description, they don’t appear to have whistle steam. Anybody know if that’s the case?

A Canadian National Mogul!  Got a TMCC 86, so a Legacy 89 is very welcome.  Almost would have preferred had they gone with a Grand Trunk 1008 (with a set of matching Pack-A cars) like the display at (what remains of) Aultsville.

If anything, it'll probably be one of the LC+ 2.0  0-6-0T's.  I have one of these great little runners from the first batch two years ago but may pull the trigger again. My pick is likely the Lehigh Valley Coal livery and would get some nice coal hoppers to string along behind.

Well, I'm pretty darn glad there isn't a whole lot to look at. As I thought, hardly any New York Central Engines, and none of them steam. They can keep the diesels, very happy about that. I think I will be in for one the Pennsylvania L1 Mikado's, probably with the red on the tender, not sure which one(hard to get a good look on the phone), Strasburg 89, the 2000's scheme, and most likely one of the different Pullman coaches along with the Strasburg caboose. This is good for me as I'm not ordering hardly anything. 😁

Would jump on one of the 2-6-0's IF one of the Vanderbilt tenders was coal fired.  Have to mull over bashing that change in a new loco

I decided on Greenbrier #613 with the elephant ears, I am a sucker for smoke deflectors. I also ordered the C&O passenger car packs A and C. This will be my first big ticket purchase since getting back in the hobby. My layouts outer loop is O-72 and I seem to generally want to model the C&O. The #612 fantasy scheme is a bit too far out there even for myself who loves fantasy stuff like that, but seeing it in a railroad you love, just hits different. Im interested if anyone here thinks the #612 would be something that they might purchase?

The 0-6-0T with command control looks pretty cool, I just wish they had one in a roadname I model. I guess for the price i could always repaint and redecal.  Decisions, decisions...

The stars of Volume 2 for me are definitely the L-1s Mikado and the Moguls - both are moderately priced and packed with all the modern goodies inside.

The Mikado especially, being priced significantly lower than the ex-K-Line USRA tooling models.

Definitely getting one of the Pennsy models and the modern Strasburg 89 Mogul.

But that Billups Crossing Signal is so macabre and out there, I love it.

Great Question MartyE, this is a really exciting time for Lionel enthusiast, a brass hybrid Challenger, the new L1’s Pennsylvania steamers, the re-introduction of the Heritage series SD70’s, and much more. My sights are for the MKT SD70, and some good rolling stock. If I were newer to the hobby, I would get the brass hybrid challenger. I’m still reviewing this beautiful catalog. Thank you Lionel. I’m still waiting for a PolEx steamer (other than #1225 - it’s busy with passenger service) to come along to haul all the PolEx scale freight I’ve been accumulating over the years. The mid-size L1s in this catalog would’ve been perfect.  

As of now, I probably will not be pre-ordering anything. But if I do, I might order one item which would either be the Cotton Belt or Frisco Hobo Boxcar. I like the early challengers and the SP Mogul but with the 3rd Rail brass ones out there, I'm more inclined to getting the 3rd Rail models. So we shall see what happens. But anyway this catalog is surprisingly decent for being a volume 2 catalog.

Nothing this time mainly because there are very few items I am looking for.  I was surprised to see the hybrid because I thought Lionel would just release more ex-MTH and call it new, instead of actually doing new tooling.  Those that were looking for MTH with Legacy should be happy with this catalog.

I did initially think the H15-44 was new tooling, but it looks like it is just the H16-44 tooling with a new name on the box.  Kind of like Lionel's PRR H10.

Maybe next year.

i hope Eric Seigel or Chris RBP  get one of the brass challengers . that pilot version gonna be insane with all that brass showing just wish it would be shiny and have a gloss finish from engine to tender.

The Erie FA-2 AAs ….   Would be cool to pick up this body style with Legacy control.

I like the Pennsylvania N60 cabin cars, too.

With the CAB3 and some other stuff on pre-order, probably won’t be purchasing much else in the near future.

Nope, they are MTH's PRR L1s Mikado tooling.

To add to what Tim stated. The K Line Mikados are the USRA design. The L1 Mikado is Pennsy specific as indicated by the bel paire firebox.

Getting back on topic. I think I'm in for one of those Mike's. 1627 with the doghouse tender and red oxide roof.

Hopefully Lionel can get a handle on the reds and avoid a silver smokebox.

Hmm, this sounds quite interesting, eh? New Gearbox Design, that does sound good. I didn't think the gearbox was the biggest issue in the prior engines, but there was so much wrong with the Mogul's, that it could have been something that may have been overlooked?
