Introducing as part of Lionels "Post Iraq War Celebration Series" are the beloved UP Heritage SD-70ACes.  You will get the highly sought after Positive Train Control (PTC) plastic box glued to the roof of your cab.  Also included are several horn sounds that are not anything like the actual locomotives.  Bluetooth is included for all customers that don't have our "to be" produced Cab-3 and can't locate any of our Cab-2 remotes.   Please overlook that the road specific crew/tower talk sounds have been eliminated along with any certificates of authenticity and replica metal builder plates.  We will do our best to paint them somewhat close to the actual locomotives and get them to you intact and unbroken.

Hilarious! Thanks.

Do to being retired, I am more concerned about where my discretionary funds go, therefore, buying a L1 Mikado in the Sante Fe version, with the tender made in brass, which is the model I would buy, reminds me much of the #3222 Sante Fe mikado brass hybrid I purchased several years ago and looks to have the same drive train. So, before I make this purchase, I want to know how this engines drive train is made, front motored or rear motored. I’d like to see a parts diagram first.  The brass tender caught my eye. I’m also looking at the Hobo sounds box cars (Frisco) but haven’t received the one from the 2021-Vol 2 and in that catalog the figures were to be pewter, this catalog says plastic, so why the change? Last but not least, I’m looking closely at the newer Heritage SD70Ace series Katy model, I have the 2012 version of the MKT model with the other paint scheme and could make a lash up with this new version. So, this is where my thoughts are today. This is a really nice catalog and if one looks closely there’s something for everyone. I am anxious to get the hard copy of this catalog. Happy Railroading Everyone

I wish they offered PRR L1 #520 as a stand alone piece......since the #520 is the only remaining example of the PRR L1 it would be cool to own, but of course Lionel marketing  figured it would be popular and made it part of a pricey set .........

Yeah, I was surprised at that too. Funny thing was last year when I was at the museum, they had done quite a bit of work on #520 from when I last saw it. I don't remember what the attendant outside had told me about some of the work done, but I do know that they plan to build a roundhouse around the turntable to move some of the equipment into. This is a 10 year project the attendant said, so the engine may be done before the roundhouse is up. They're also supposed to be storing/buying part of the adjacent property where the rails run over into. I think he said that it would be another building to be built there housing some of the smaller items/display cases in there to make more room in the museum.

Somewhere on my phone or on my flashdrive I have pictures of the museum and most of the equipment as well. I've posted quite a bit on the forum over the years.

Do I smell a custom run in the making???

Would love to see prewar 520 as standalone - currently there they are not offering a standalone L1 that is prewar with doghouse on the tender (red cab roof and tender deck would be nice on it too)

The Black Widow SD40T-2 is an awesome what-if? paint scheme. I really wish SP kept that livery into the modern day. I might look into getting that engine, or maybe the SPSF Kodachrome and/or Santa Fe SD40T-2. Anyone notice the TCA ATSF SD45 in the Bicentennial livery in the back? I really would love to get that engine, too. It's a pity that Lionel doesn't have an SD45-2 tooling. It would make the engine more accurate. Does any company make an SD45-2 in O-Scale?

I've been casually looking for a Greenbrier on the secondary market but either missed out on good deals or they are priced higher than I wanted to pay. So I think I'll pick up a Legacy version.

Someone on one of these threads mentioned that Charles Ro had a great preorder price for the L1 - the price rivals Lionel's full-price for some smaller Legacy steam (eg, the Ten Wheelers from a recent catalog), making it an outstanding deal for a new engine, so I may pick one of those up or maybe the Cumberland Valley set.

The early challenger in general looks cool but I am already on the hook for a Vision Class A, I think I will have to pass. I can always go for a 3rd Rail model on the secondary market.

It is a shame to see the LC+2.0 0-6-0T cost go up. Inflation spares no one, but it's good to see the price is still affordable. The price of the NW2 caught me by surprise since I paid about the same price for a NYC SW8. However, the H15-44 looks like it is Lionel's choice for small diesel sales and the price for it has gone up too. Again, inflation takes no prisoners. I would like an NW2 (SW8 is very late in the general time period I want to loosely model), but at this point I may hold out for a Legacy version later on.

I've grown fond of small steam engines and have been hoping for a Legacy mogul or another (non-Harriman) Conslidation, but the Mogul isn't in any road name I collect, so I'll pass on those this year. I'm a little surprised a NYC version didn't make it on the roster!

Overall I think it's a really good catalog, especially for the latter-half of the year

Question for the more seasoned hobby members: does Lionel typically do a new Vision engine in Jaunary and then a brass-hybrid in the fall? I've never taken note of their releases for these (for a long time I thought I wasn't in the market for them) but with the release of the Vision Class A and now the beautiful early Challenger it's got me thinking.

Regarding the Greenbrier fantasy scheme--

It looks fantastic. And I'm probably getting it. BUT--I wish they had also offered the Greenbrier Presidential Express scheme, which is half fantasy, half prototypical. Short version: the 614 was on deck to run a luxury-class Greenbrier Express between DC and White Sulphur Springs. It was moved to Clifton Forge, painted up in the new livery, and then the deal crumbled. 614 is still there today in that livery, and it's really sharp.

Longer version: Read Here

Maybe we'll get that scheme one day, but man, if it was in this catalog with a matching streamliner fantasy set, I would have been first in line.

That is a sharp scheme! Maybe a dealer will do a custom run.

WOW, inflation sure hit the 0-6-0T models!  The were bumped up by $100!  They were a good deal at a street price of $210-220, not so much now...

I was telling my brother about one of the comments yesterday for one of the engines I didn't see until later. Comment was saying, "about the same as 500 gallons of gasoline or less". I explained the breakdown to the price of being $2500 or so. My brother laughed. Some of the engines are close to what I thought they'd be(the lower end ones), sort of expected the Greenbriar's to be what the Mohawk's were, what was I thinking. Glad I didn't want one of them because I'm not into them.

i was rolling around on trainz.com and found a greenbrier in proto 1 for a little over 600 bucks

Greenbrier is not my cup of tea, and I have been looking through stuff on Trainz as well as some other outlets here and there. Though they are some impressive engines, it is like the Big Boy for me, not interested. What I ordered is what appealed to me. If there was a NYC steamer, I would have ordered one I am sure. It just so happens that the L1's and the Strasburg 89 are my cup of tea. I am extremely curious as to what the next catalog will have. I know that I am anticipating that the Y6B may be around the corner sometime soon. That is one engine that I want a lot since I missed out on them because they popped up before I came back to the hobby. Also waiting for UP 844 to come back, but I think that will be a wait as well. I am satisfied by how little I ordered, I need a break and like GRJ says, "not for that price".

In the end, I will buy what tailors to me, much like everyone else. I don't just try to buy everything listed in the catalog, and I do try to make the best decisions as far as what seems like what I want. The Hudson's they had a few years ago, I went crazy with those, getting lucky to get a few for less than the discount that was listed as they were listed the price to move. I thought I missed out on one, but luckily, it managed to come back up and I snatched it. It's a waiting game now, just like always.

On the PRR L1's the location of the class lights differ; #1343, #1627  have the lights on the smoke-box near the stack and the dynamo was relocated to the front which I believe was to facilitate maintenance.......the other engines have the class lights on the pilot deck.

On the MTH version of the #520 the class lights were on the smoke box, the dynamo was on the front, the cab roof and tender deck were painted red, and there was a "doghouse" on the tender deck. The #520 in the set does not appear to reflect all of these features although it appears the doghouse is present.......then again, this is just catalog artwork........

I hope Ryan and Dave clarify some of these detail differences...........
