I'm trying to assemble a 3419 helicopter (not the car) from some parts I have. I'm not quite sure how it goes together, especially where the spring in the rotor is supposed to be. I have a Lionel service manual but it doesn't show where the spring is supposed to go.

Thanks for the diagram but that is the one that I already have. I believe there is a spring somewhere between the clutch, shaft, and blade but I could be wrong. I picked up a collection with the 3419 car but it had a broken and partially re-assembled helicopter that appeared to have been partially reconstructed by the previous owner. There was a spring between the thrust washer and the shaft but it obviously didn't belong there. I'm trying to figure out if it should be in the assembly somewhere or if it doesn't belong at all.

No, the only spring is in the launching mechanisms.
The helicopter has nothing in it. The 3419 launching mechanism has a spring wound mechanism that, when released, spins the blades.
Thank you. I don't know why there was a spring in the broken one that I disassembled. It sure makes sense because I could not really find a place for it to go.
The 2 blade helicopter has a spring between the top of the body and the lower blade.
