3rd Sunset Communications Car

Yesterday our 21" communication car arrived from 3rd Rail.  Like all their items, this car was very well packaged.  About an inch of white foam is inside the six surfaces of the shipping carton.  The car's carton was in a cellophane bag.  Inside that carton, the car is in a plastic bag and held in place by formed pieces of Styrofoam at each end.  There is room for a strip of black soft foam above the antennas. More antennas than I thought would be on the car by looking at the photograph.   As expected, this car is heavy.  Windows are crystal clear and the furniture inside is just right.  No people, but they may be added.  This long car looks good on our O-120 curves. File picture, I'm have a problem transferring pictures from my camera to the computer.  Lighting is very good, doors open and the work rooms extend from the windows far enough to allow a walking aisle on the opposite side of the car, much like an all stateroom car.  It will run at the head end of our outside loop passenger train.

Scott shared the communication cars, hospital cars and surgery cars are on the same shipping schedule.

Thanks John.  We are in need of some G.I. s to populate these cars and  to stand as guards on trains carrying equipment.  I could use a bunch.

As a youngster I remember trains with tanks, trucks, jeeps, etc moving westward during the Korean War.  It seemed that each flat had a soldier riding shotgun.  That must have been a tough duty, back in the day as these trains lumbered westward on the Pennsy.  I remember double headed and even triple headed steam in the lead

Norm -  I don't know who manufactured them but we have either four or six WW II type troops seated on our layout. Right now I think they are on park benches.

PRRHorseShoeCurve - Which engine are you going to use for power?  These cars are heavy.

I would have loved to purchase these cars, but they were just too far out of my price range.  I can and have  rationalized/justified the purchase of many expensive scale engines and cars, but I just could not pull the trigger on these.  They look amazing and I very happy for you.  I look forward to seeing more pics.

It would be great if there seated WWII military figures.  I have used K lines but they are too big, to my eye.

That communication car would, and did, accompany the President's armored car Ferdinand Magellan, which was produced by Overland Models Inc., some years ago. Overland offered the car in both 3-Rail and 2-Rail, in two different versions, one for F.D. Roosevelt & H.S. Truman, and the later version for Ronald Reagan.

YEah!  My Eyes are out for the Ronny Ray gun version... but I will take what I can get!
