I just bought a brand (sealed in the box) new 3rd Rail Southern Pacific M-9 Mogul with EOB and Railsounds. The engine came out several years ago and just sat as seller’s stock until I bought it.
The engine has a switch which allows the operator to set the chuffs at 2/ rev or 4/rev. When set at 2 chuffs, the locomotive operates perfectly. However, when set at four chuffs, the first three chuffs are present followed by a short, slight electronic noise and there is no fourth chuff.
The loco has two cams (one with two lobes [2 chuff]and one with four lobes [4 chuff]) and they are tight on the front driver axle. Other than that I haven't disassembled anything on the loco.
Any ideas, suggestions as to the problem? How to fix?
TIA,
