Talking about HO guys!
Like my quest for a scale transfer caboose, I would love a conrail coil shield car in 3 rail O scale.
Yes, I’m aware K-line, Atlas and MTH makes/made steel coil cars, none cool like this, IMO.

Looks like a coilshield on a flat car. You could make one using a flat car and "coil covers" made by Lionel, still available at many of our advertisers. The extra pieces on the flat car deck and the interesting ladders look like items off of K-line TTUX spine cars. these may still be available from Brasseur.
there is so much available in O gauge coil cars today ,i dont know how anyone could be unhappy with whats offered.

Not really following the HO reference, but:
You could be a modeler and build one. It's a flatcar with coil covers, and a little salad here and there. Paint and decals (maybe you won't even need the decals). The building part of something simple like this is the fun part. Coil covers are often available on eBay and other places, as are scale (and other) flatcars. Sounds like a weekend project to me - and you'll have the only one.

Most rolling stock in the real world is not modeled in O; no matter how much they make, if you want something different, you have to build/modify it.

I have several Atlas cars, don’t really like the K-line or the MTH stuff.
Maybe I can get some of these 3d printed
This is WELL CAR, that is almost like an Intermodal car.
Perhaps you could suggest it to MENARDS that they add COIL COVERS that fit on to their 40' Well Car to make it a coil car.
Andrew
The NORFOLK SOUTHERN PROTECTOR covered steel coil car built by Thrall Car is a very similar well car, but they have distinct coil covers.
Andrew
The coilshield is far from being a well car. Totally different structure. Id like to see ya put coil steel loads inside a well car and see how long the floor and sides last lol
I started building a coilshield car a few years ago. Life got in the way. I was fortunate to get all the measurements off a prototype in Grand Rapids with a friendly rail served industry. Most of which I drew in CAD for eventual printing.
Coil cars are a version of a gondola or a well car because they have a boxy shape and the coils are set inside. These versions are very low to the tracks like the Thrall Car well cars for intermodal containers.
Anyway. The company that might be able to make these unique models for O scale 3-rail and 2-rail is most likely the 3rd Rail Division of Sunset Models.
They would have to make both the CONRAIL CoilShield and the Norfolk Southern PROTECT cars with the distinct designed coil covers on the coil cars.

Ask ExactRail to have an O scale model 3D printed from the data of an HO scale model

@prrhorseshoecurve are the most recent Lionel coil cars just former MTH premier tooling? They sure look like it. I have that same Conrail coil by MTH premier.
