Saw this on Yahoo and found it well done description of long-distance rail travel:

Fans of streamline passenger trains with vista domes, dining cars, sleeping rooms, etc. will enjoy the too many to count photographs of the passenger accommodations on The Canadian.
Note: This was going to be my reply to a post by VistaDomeScott but it vanished.
Very good review. Thanks. My wife and I are considering this. Two things: Start your trip out West with the Rocky Mountaineer railroad sight-seeing trip. Do not make "tight" airline reservations for your flight home. I've seen the VIA train running 24+ hours late. The reviewer's arriving on-time was a rare event.
Carl, I meant to edit the post but ran short on time.
I had posted that I hoped Mr. Anderson at Amtrak reads this review!
VIA really has nice service that people enjoy!
Ive taken the VIA Canadian three times from Vancouver to Toronto, in the winter, each trip was great. Best food ever !

Clem, food was a BIG part of the report--looked amazing--prep, presentation, and staff. Reporter loved it all.
Anybody else catch the ticket price? Up to $6,000.00! I can ride for a year in Europe for that.

I paid less than $700.00 for Vancouver to Toronto, Lower berth, the small room was a little more, but I like the Lower berth best. I also go in winter and purchase tickets from VIA when they have promotion. Summer is too crowded.

They have a sale going on right now
Clem, $700.00, that's what I'm talkin' about. Thanks for the heads up. I can do that.
