I also saw in the PURPLE Hall that there were a few of the regulars not there too. One in particular was S&W Parts. I always stopped there to say hi and get some parts from them. I just hope that this trend doesn't continue?
When I started going to York, there was no orange, silver, Brown or black hall.
yellow was the place to be
rat
The blue hall was the place to be if you are a collector.
When I started in 83 there was Blue, Black, Yellow, Red, White & Purple.....loved the smell of animal cages in the Purple Hall when it was hot and humid ......

Oh yeah, My Father and Grandfather called Purple the "Chicken" hall.
This will be my first York going as a member of the 52 week club aka a retiree! Been going to York since 1992 and have not missed any since then.
This will be my first O scale York meet. I've only been to one Large scale show in 2010. How should I go about finding my way around the different halls ? Does each hall have a dedicated purpose ? Any other things I should know that might help me to have a better train meet experience out there ?
Dan, for all the York Meet information, check out the York Primer. The link is info leading up to last October's Meet but is generally current. Stay tuned for the update for April's Meet in the coming weeks.
Get some snacks and a cold drink, there's a lot of info.
The Purple and Orange Halls are dealer and manufacturers halls with mostly newer items. The rest are members selling their personal collections and can vary from ancient to modern trains.

Wow Ted! I thought you had at least another year left. Good luck and spend most of your time running your trains. I hope you don't go through cookie withdrawal!
The brown hall closing is no loss. brown hall, purple hall and black hall I would never miss.
I wish they could open up and move some table holders to the old Yellow Hall and spread out the tables more in the other halls.

Everything was in black and white back in those days.

And it was up hill (both ways!) to walk between Blue and Red/White.

And we were all so young we didn't need bus service between the halls,
Getting closer

Hey, I still am that young! 19 years ago I was one of the youngest people walking around York. I'm still probably in the lower 20% based on all attendees.
Don't worry, I know my day will come too! (If I am lucky, of course).

Well, I got 4 days behind on the countdown. I spent Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday night in the hospital. Monday was the first time I have spent a night in a hospital in 85 years. Anyway, I had a pacemaker inserted. I just got home today Thursday. I will be ready for York in 30 days.
Last York I had the knees of an eighty year old....this York I will have the knees of a 5 month old....

You are a brave man, Eddie G. I wish you the best.

You thought Eddie used to fly around the halls before, wait til he gets there with his new pacemaker.

plus there were no permanent buildings and we had to walk up hill both ways :-)

God bless you Eddie you are a trooper!!!!
Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, Eddie!

Looking forward to York...can't wait! Will have to go on Thursday before jetting off to the Ritz Carlton in Florida on Friday!
Sorry to see Brown Hall go. Open dealer halls to public on Saturdays to boost vendor interest. Vendors will be there if there are buyers!

You have to be kidding !!! At its peak , there where no more than seven or eight venders in there , extremely poor lighting and the floor was very strange . You were always leaning as you walked . I for one will not miss it . Please let's not beat that dead horse again about opening the dealer halls to the public !!!! Jim
All the halls are open to the public during the entire Meet. All they have to do is join the TCA to enter!
Besides, most buyers are already there, most non-member that may attend would only go for a day out with their family and not do much buying. That would not help the vendors much, some who are looking to pack up early anyway.

THANK YOU! I thought the Brown Hall's strange floor was just me. I could not understand why I always felt like I was walking drunk (especially since I gave up drinking 14 years ago).
Does anyone remember the Green hall? It was a great place for bargains, because no one knew about it!
MIKATT1 posted:Does anyone remember the Green hall? It was a great place for bargains, because no one knew about it!
Yup. Often referred to as "Green Barn" over the PA if I recall.
It also had a nifty exhibit of a guy (or club consisting of a few guys, I forget) who had this floor push train made by re-forming old tin cans into steam engines(large potato cans, etc). It was quite a unique thing to see.
Also Gold (small building next to Yellow/Grandstand), which had a leaky roof one year after it was no longer used for dealers, but was opened for Lionel to give their presentations.

Thanks all for your kind words, i will see you in York.
Eddie,
This will be first York going there as a retiree! No more work after April 1 !

rtraincollector posted:You mean the bus service has been discontinued ?
I don't think anyone suggested that. We were maybe poking a bit of fun at Eddie for his mention of halls that didn't exist yet when he started attending, but those comments were all just banter.
The shuttle service is the first item under "General Information" in the meet flyer, so I am sure it is still happening.

LOL That is a funny Yogi Berra -ism. How did they find it ? How do you lose a hall??? No one goes there anymore.
MIKATT1 posted:Does anyone remember the Green hall? It was a great place for bargains, because no one knew about it!
The Black Hall's rest rooms were a great bargain...no tip jars.
Yes, but does anybody remember the open-air livestock pens that used to be between the Orange Hall and the stadium?
