yep sounds like what happens around my home. i just do not have a wife just a sister and a niece.
The best thing I did was to ask my wife for help creating scenery etc and also ask what she would like to see on the layout.
Now she is just as interested and I will have a partner with me next April in York!
dpg makes a very good point. If you can get your wife involved in some way with your layout, she will be very supportive of our hobby. START THIS PROCESS EARLY.
Yes but who then will watch the kids?
I know its just a joke,
But if Marvin were down there, helping dad, perhaps he'd become a hobbiest too.
Should be the easy part by getting the kids involved.
The point here of course is that there is nothing funny about this family or situation. Is the reason why she has been "chasing the son around all day" because he has ADHD or some other neurological impairment? And look at how they are dressed + body language. We live in a time where media has learned how to make big profit off of dysfunctional, acting out, impulsive people w/ failing lives/marriages.
Speaking of the 1950's: I remember the days when calling someone a twit/birdbrain was considered a derogatory term and a person who's only goal was to "be popular" was viewed w/contempt. Boy have the role models, life goals & competencies changed over the past 20 yrs!
Social media indeed: twit this!
As much as I tried, this hobby is just not my wife's cup of tea. She respects my interests and I respect hers so at least there's no conflict!

lol. sounds familiar to me
I always try to make sure everything else is cool in the house (wife, kids) before I head in for some train time.

WOW!
Maybe you need to spend more time with your trains!
I showed the drawing to my wife this morning and she wont's to have it enlarged and framed. She said the very same thing to me a number of times.
