I was working on converting a 2 rail 4-8-2 Weaver months ago. I installed a PS3 board out of a tinplate engine I believe. I forgot where I left off on this engine so I put her on the track after verifying there were no shorts.
(another funny story. The main drivers #s 2 and 3 had a short across them before and now they don't? Maybe the side rods or something intermittent? I was going to heat the tires without flanges and remove the one side that was shorting after reading a post here on the forum. Originally I was going to cut them off and order new ones from Joe F.)
She was on the rails and the chuffs were off (too fast) and the sounds were different so I figured I must not have ever installed the proper sound files. The name was something like red #561 or? As I checked the sound file soft keys she went bazerk and played gibberish like high speed talking and sounds?
Anyways I downloaded new sounds from a newer PS3 PRR 482 m1b.

I installed them and I figured I'd put in the chain files too. Then I would redo the tach tape if needed. I put her on the track and fired her up. The first thing I noticed was the whistle was also weird? It would play a quick blast shaped more like a diesel horn with a press of the button? There were others but I kept messing. I cycled the power and still the same. I tried the power again and I chose the ext start-up. She said "let's get her steamed" and then all the sounds were as they should play.
I was interested in more exploration so I cycled power again and tried the reg start-up. The sounds were off again. Very short or not there at all. Soft keys for example just click. I played with the engine power cycles and start-up some more and noticed that when she says "let's get her steamed" all is well. If she just makes steam start-up sounds without that announcement, no soft key sounds and short horn sounds???
Another thing in the train room is that my phone app keeps quitting. It has happened before and I blame it on the phone's software or lacking of, after removing some extra software to make more storage room a year ago.
Whenever I press the refresh or the add new engine, the app says MTH DCS has stopped working. It's funny to me because I went thru this last year. After much work, it has worked fine ever since. I ran trains all last week with it. It updated recently and now it's quitting again! I can't be sure but one time I found the WIFI turned itself off in the phone. I think it has something to do with the app communicating with the TIU???? or trying to.
Also when I chose the reset engine on the remote for feature reset, it deletes the name that I just changed. I thought it only should do that if I did a factory reset?
