During the past week, 13 Menards threads have been started. What gives?

Mr. Hohmann,
In answer to your question, Menard's has been releasing some very nice new buildings along with their new "O" Gauge tubular track. A lot of people are very excited and a lot them have questions pertaining to these new products.
No, let them advertise with the rest.
I like seeing new products. I wish all the sponsors would market and explain them AND answer questions the way Menards does. They actually read the posts, listen to potential customers and respond. If you are not interested, simply skip the post.

I live in Alabama, and there are no Menards stores anywhere near me. Had I not seen all this info on the forum-- I would be largely unaware that Menards has O-Gauge stuff. Two weeks ago I ordered 7 buildings, and will probably buy more. I think it is great that they have decided to enter the O-gauge market. I also really appreciate the fact that the "Menards Guy" exists for info about new products, and feedback from existing offerings. No they are not perfect, but what is? Far better to see new folks entering the fray than to see folks depart. My 0.03 cents. (Adjusted for inflation...)

Sponsors are allowed to advertise on the forum. Menards is just one of many.
To the OP's initial question, the answer is simply that Menards has introduced and delivered a large number of new products--vehicles, buildings, and rolling stock--at a frequency that has seldom been seen in our hobby; and, purchasers post information and photos.
What sets Menards apart from other sponsors is their active participation on the forum addressing issues and questions about their products and the improvements made in the products as a result of such participation. BRAVO, Menards!!!
They are doing fine just the way it is.

Just over-reaction as usual by Forum members.
Every heard leave a sleeping dog lie? I think we don't need a separate forum category.
If you examine how this forum has been run; there are no manufacturer specific forum subsections. It appears that any forum member and/or advertiser can come on and participate in the open exchange of ideas and opinions so IMO the forum is fine as is. As for Menard's, I am very impressed by what they are doing. I hope that we can expect to see their products at the shows soon. Nothing like seeing before you buy.

I am sorry... what over reaction are you referring too? Did I miss something?

AMEN! Dale. This is one of the reasons Menards has had, has and will continue to get my train dollar first.
To the topic - No Menards does not need their own forum. LOL we all talk about it enough anyhow!
Ted
Not dissing Mennard's, glad they are in to O gauge, just don't need a forum on them. Relax.
No more forums please.
I think there are too many already.
If the Menards postings and discussion upsets some folks why do they open and read the thread. Wouldn't it help their attitude to just skip over the thread.

Kind'a wished Menards would ship to Canada.

If you have the opportunity to visit a Menards store, you'll understand why there are so many new O3R-related products coming out at this time.
It's 'Trains Season'....or, the start thereof, anyway. The holidays....Christmas is a-comin'.
About the middle of October each year, Menards revamps a few aisles/shelves for their upcoming seasonal sales...as taught in Madison Avenue 101. Ergo, lots of choo-choo related items....buildings, autos/trucks, scenery, train sets, train cars, etc., etc....all at very appealing prices, too, I might add. And other toys/games/puzzles....the IMPORTANT stuff under the tree.
We (LHS) are surrounded (blessed?) with a couple Menards stores in our area. Yeah, they could be thought of as competition in some regards. We've come to welcome them as fellow hobby-promoters, however. They add to the excitement, growth, interest in the hobby.
After all, come January, they'll be revamping the same aisles/shelves for the next round of seasonal sales push. Different merchandise, different emphasis. A lot of the interest they help foster in O3R finds its way to the stores that provide year-round support.......like us!
Also.....gotta have a great place to get the benchwork materials....dimensional lumber, plywood,......homosote! Etc., etc., etc.. And, yes, they'll continue to sell O3R online.
And every so often they have great deals on EVERYTHING!!
Hey, having Menards in your/our town is one of the advantages of living between the mountain ranges.....where they still circle the wagons!
Just MHO, of course.

Biggest problem with Menard's is that they do not stock Philips lighting products, forcing me to go to Home Depot. Every other brand of LED lighting I have tried has broken. The brands that Menards stocks might be perfectly fine, but all I know is if I buy Philips it is going to work, and my wife will not complain about the color of the light.
But this can be easily overlooked since Menard's stocks Sprecher's soda pop, in more flavors that even the giant liquor store in the area.
At Menards the product is displayed nicer, the shelves are cleaned up quicker, and when you walk out the door the alarm is not going to go off because the employee forgot to unlock whatever that thing is.
Kind'a wished Menards would ship to Canada.
Well, for those out of range in the US or Canada some Menard's items are available at Diecast Direct.
On a side note I'm jealous of you Mid West folks in one regard. I want a Menards in my back yard of New Hampshire! Or the Boston area.
Kind'a wished Menards would ship to Canada.
Me also but to the UK! James
Pingman,
Carl great point and I agree 100% We definitely need a Menard's store to move into the old Sears building in the Wilkinstownship/Monroeville area, just outside of Pittsburgh, Pa.

I contacted Menards a few months ago and the lady said " No Problem. Just phone us your order details and we do ship to Canada".
>>there are no manufacturer specific forum subsections
If you ignore the Lionel and MTH command system forums.
I agree with CW Burfle -- too many sub-forums as it is. I read two of them at best.
I have patronized Menards for years, and the O gauge items are great, but, please, no new forums!

Hi Michael, Have you tried the Menard's LED bulbs? I have a bunch of them and they are fine. The Menards buyers are really good. I trust the products they sell. Menards has always been my first hardware stop. I'm not just saying that either.
No separate forum either.
No more forums please.

something had to take weavers spot....since that has pretty much died down...Jim
In a relatively short time Menard’s has gone from a company with retail outlets in only 14 states that most of us never heard of to a recognized name and a credible supplier in this segment of the model train hobby. That’s quite an accomplishment!

Glad you like Philips lights, but I avoid them. I've had a real problem with their florescent bulbs, especially. I've replaced lighting fixtures only to discover that the problem was with the Philips lights that didn't work in the fixtures. Replaced with GE, and no more problems. I much prefer GE, Sylvania, anything else.

Agree completely. If it goes into a separate sub-forum, I won't be reading it.
I don't think there are too many sub-forums.
But as Menards threads are general interest to many, it makes sense to leave these in the main forum.
Wish Menard's was in NJ.
It would be nice to see the buildings and rolling stock in person.

I agree. Can you imagine if all the stuff that's in the other sub-forums was deposited in a single place (forum)? A post made 5 minutes ago would be on page 7 by now
Besides, if OGR gave Menards their own sub-forum, then MTH, Lionel, Atlas, GGD/3rd Rail, and all the has-beens would have to be presented with their own sub-forum.
Maybe OGR can give each forumite their own sub-forum instead. That way the responses on whatever we (I) blab about will be localized and if no responses within 24 hours then it get canned Of course we might need an "Idol Worship" sub-forum within each "FSF" (Forumite-Sub-Forum) to take care of those responses that praise the OP but don't really add to the discussion

Gee, I didn't write that there shouldn't be any sub-forums, did I?

Hi Larry:
Curious as to the number you used to contact them?
They allow you to go through all the motions, including selecting "Canada" and then "State" changes to "Prov". Same for ZIP/Postal Code.
But then . . .

Except for this forum, I never heard of Menard's. What is it, and why is it significant enough to warrant its own forum?
