A Source for 12 Volt Motors??

Since small synchronous A/C motors are/were used extensively to drive analog clocks, perhaps some searches related to clock repair might yield some sources.  Although the ones I've seen were designed for line voltage, perhaps this might get you closer to a supplier.

Google “12 volt synchronous motor”.  You will find a number of different motors.  You are going to need to know the motor size, the shaft diameter and length as well as the motors rpms.

I did an ebay search for 12 volt synchronous motor and came up with one pretty close to what you have.  I think the hard part would be mating up to what you are running meaning the shaft size and configuration.    If that is flexible you have a better shot at it.  If those leads on your motor don't go to anything else , you could use a different voltage motor.  24 VAC is a lot more popular.  The rest of the info you need is right on the back of the motor you have.   5-6 RPM,  4 watt and CW (clock wise rotation)  You don't want the ones that state CW or CCW as you cant control which way they will turn. Don't go any lower than a 4 watt motor as that is the torque required to run your device without stalling - you can obviously go higher. Hope this helps a little.   JP

The leads come from the circuit board, so a 24 volt motor may work.

Do you have room for a common can motor. Might be easier to find a DC gear motor that turns about 5-6 RPM. Then add a bridge rectifier so you can use the AC power. Being reversible just swap the leads if it turns the wrong way. Tons of gear motors on the auction sites.

Speaking of eBay, there's someone selling a Lemax Toy World with "no movement."  

Is the "lid" to the can welded or can it be removed by bending some tabs or whatever?  It appears the 49TYJ motor comes in various voltages and speeds.  So if you can't find the exact 12V 6 RPM model, I wonder if you can mix/match parts. 

For example, I'd think a plastic pinion gear on the motor shaft in the center of the can could crack/fail and could be replaced.  This is probably the most common reason O-gauge crossing gates stop moving.  If you turn down/off the sounds can you hear/feel the motor spinning?

You would have to get very lucky.   Your old motor would have to be from the same manufacturer. Could happen.   j

Actually, I found a Toy World on eBay that works and I bought it. I'll save the non-working one for cosmetic parts. Thanks to everyone for their help.
