Background:

Many of you know that in September my K-Line Collectors Club New Haven EP-5 with TMCC and cruise thought it was an airplane and tried to fly.......actually, it was on a shelf that collapsed and even though the floor was carpeted, a 6 wheel truck side frame shattered into about 10 pieces.....

What to do? K-Line is defunct (as we all know) and the engine closing in on 20 years. Last time MTH catologed then was 2013.....I could wait.......but, for a New Haven guy, passengers need to move behind an EP-5.

I mentioned this to a few of my friends that I was looking for a K-Line EP-5, any road name, for a good price, so I can switch out the side frame.

About 3PM yesterday, while I was holding my phone to take pics of the White Hall layouts, I get a text from Forum member Craignor........"come to location I-8 in the Blue Hall" and there was a picture of a conventional K-Line New Haven EP-5 for sale.....I immediately bolted for the Blue Hall. 15 minutes later, I was walking back to my car with a pristine conventional K-Line New Haven EP-5, for $100 (still in the shipping carton).

First of all, thank you, Craig.

Secondly, this is why I enjoy York......even  with all the changes, the "thrill of the hunt" remains, made better by all the friendships we have made over the years.

Peter,

That is a great story of the thrill of the hunt and networking with other modelers.  Those are two great reasons for attending York!  I never saw the 'old York', since I didn't make my first trip until the Fall of 2017, but I will say it is still the biggest meet that I have experienced!  I think I miss seeing all of you great friends the most!  York enabled me to meet you, Craig, and numerous other 'cyber friends' here on the Forum and FaceBook groups in person!  I hope to recover from my knee replacement and join all of you in the spring.

I'm glad Craig was able to help you find the EP-5!

This is a great story, I am still working on mine. So far, the best things have been chatting up a storm with everyone I have come in contact with. I did bend someone's ear about Hudson's as I always do(its in the name), but more importantly I asked if there was more information about track pans. Yes, I do know some things have been said on the forum here, and I have gotten some documentation as well from the forum here that most have seen as well. I have two book leads that I will look into, one tomorrow when I head back over to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania(as they should have the one), and the other I have seen on Amazon(I will wait till I get home for that one). I plan on popping a design in layout planning when I get some time as I got a lead on some other information with pans and such. I hope I can scale it well so it looks like what I saw yesterday.

Now, as far as miracles, I didn't buy anything but food today. I still have spent more on train or train related items, so that is a good thing. Tomorrow I will hit the few places I didn't get to yesterday, and had no time today to go. I will probably leave York tomorrow after 12-1 just to make sure I get to see everything. I always try to see everything that there is to see, talk to everyone that will lend an ear to me as well, and if I don't buy anything tomorrow, I will still be happy with that as all the time I have spent out here has been time well spent.
