I just went to the train room and put mine in TMCC mode . I was able to adjust the smoke to high. Does the Cab 1 default to 32 speed steps? Because the sound changes are more pronounced in the cab1 and I really liked it but the quilling whistle didn't seem to work. It blew but with the same touch feel that it does in Legacy.

I guess she's a steam engine LOL you gotta learn what makes her tick if you want to run her.

David, the chuff sounds can be controled some what differently in tmcc vs. legacy. See george browns article/review of the legacy 080 steamer. Were you using an old cab1 to try this or just setting legacy cab2 to tmcc? Just wondering! Anyway I just wish this engine worked as it is supposed too! But if sending it back spending$$$ only to have it work as before why bother. Just hope john can answer that million dollar question! As it is it runs fine, sounds great and smokes up a storm for now. Cross my fingers! If running it this way using the smoke feature as is won't damage anything further and replacing acreg does not change anything. Guess i can live with the legacy H-M-L ( on/off )feature not working! But as mike stated it should be filled when the unit is off and had a chance to cool. Some day I will be doing away with the old cab1 for another legacy cab2! So what would I do then to shut it off or adjust output?Turning it off all together was suggested but i love smoke and choo choo ! The more fog the better in my train room!!

I was just running mine with legacy in TMCC not hard only takes a couple key strokes.
I'm gonna switch it back to legacy cause I like the whistle better..

Marty I am going to send it in maybe next week. I opened it up and see the part you describe but it looks like it is going to be a PIA to replace and i dont want to mess with it. I could and probably would screw it up even more! I'il just let lionel do it.I was just asking john because of what david said. He Sent his in and came back no different. Labor parts and shipping is going to cost at least $120.00 so I just wanted to be sure sending it back was not a wast of my money. If I send it back and get the same results as david why bother!

My engine was under warranty when I sent it back. When I got it back it still wasn't fixed . That was last year and it was the year of the send backs for me. I sent off my Z-4000 and waited 4 months to get it back. I sent off my Legacy to get it upgraded and they messed up the charging circuit so it had to go back again. All in all I had a little over $400 in shipping last year for stuff from MTH and Lionel that quit working and the 10 wheeler was the straw that broke the camels back.
I know how to get it to smoke, the rest works fine and I'm not going to spend any more money on it. I can make it work so your right ....why bother? I'll spend my 120 bucks on something else.
