When you add a MTH engine in super TIU mode do you have to use TIU 1 and shut off the other TIU' s or can you add the engine at any place on the layout

No, you can add the engine regardless of which TIU's tracks it's sitting on. Further, there's no need to turn off any TIUs.

However, it makes sense to add the engine to the TIU upon whose tracks the engine will normally operate. This facilitates operating the engine in Normal TIU mode, in addition to Super TIU mode, should you choose to do so.

Barry & I disagree just about every time on this one..   I like to add engines to a single tiu using a programming track or equivalent  with all of  the  other tiu shut off especially if there are other engines powered up  on the track.... In a perfect world you shouldn't have to but....

Save yourself a few headaches.   If you don't, you may get engines already added to the remote add again , this time with a different IDs,With 7 remotes 6 now have the wrong ID number. You may get engine not found because another engine has  the same  ID,,,, It will eventually add on a programming track. the list goes on.

We have 4 tiu in super, I wouldn't dream of adding in other than tiu #1s programming track.  Yes you can sometimes get away with it but it may bite you .

Gregg,

We have 4 tiu in super, I wouldn't dream of adding in other than tiu #1s programming track.  Yes you can sometimes get away with it but it may bite you .

During normal layout operation, I regularly add engines on the mainline of that TIU's tracks upon which they regularly operate. I have never had a single instance of adding a duplicate engine, a failure to add an engine or adding a "ghost" engine (except, perhaps while testing DCS beta releases or due to operator error).

I typically have only the subject engine powered up when it's being added, although I've "gang-added" up to 4 or 5 engines while all are powered up with no mishaps.  I don't have and never have had, or needed, a dedicated "programming track".

However, all of the tracks on the layout are in center-rail isolated blocks with only one DCS feed to each block, and I used star writing through out the layout.

It seems that I have a pretty good record of "getting away with it".
