So get a witch's shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We're gonna pay a call on
The Addams Family.

I am surprise that nobody has built a replica of that layout, or least not one that we have heard about. I would still like to see Lionel do a Addams Family set. Some fun was had on this forum some time ago bouncing around ideas for just such a set.

Vat car with "boiled Yak"

Giraffe car with Lurch sticking out

Mint car with Uncle Fester laying on the bed of nails

The possibilities are endless

Psychologists today would probably say that Gomez's destructive behavior leads to behavioral issues with our youth. Maybe they think that the violence themed video games many of our youth are given to play with send a better message.

I say we would be far better off by bringing back the Adams Family and all of the TV shows of that period and get rid of today's garbage based TV programming and the video games that really teach violence and destruction.

With the popularity of Lionel's Halloween items, I would think that Addams and Munster cars would sell quite well.  I can't see them being included together in a set, but could be done as a series, like the presidential series.  Such a "Halloween Series" could also include the Universal classic monsters (Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Mummy) and possibly even horror personalities like Vampira and Elvira.  And maybe it could also include more non-Halloween related monsters like King Kong and Godzilla.  I know that I would be in for the whole series.

Of course, it would all depend on the licensing demands, and those can sometimes be ridiculous...

Hi Steve, I would tend to agree,  perhaps the trailer should have the quote at the end:

"No Lionel trains were hurt in the filming of this show"

There would have to be a Gomez Addams engineer figure in the locomotive!

The track plan above is of the movie layout, which also has a fascinating story. That's another case where no Lionel trains where harmed. Reading about the movie layout, the trains, despite flying off the layout, were hardly damaged, so for the crash scene, some stunt doubles were brought in: replicas made of paper thing metal (? i forget) with explosive charges,  and they were flung at each other. I was watching the movie scene just the other night and if you pause it when the RS3s going through a covered bridge, you can see one of the steam locos in the turntable pit below has a pre war tender.

Is there an actual diagram with track and accessories needed for this layout? If both layouts are available that would be great. I am talking about The ADDAMS Family and The Munsters.

A replica of the Addams Family TV show layout is shown in one of the comments above in this four-year-old thread. The movie layout was shown in a diagram and pictures in CTT about the time the film came out in 1991.

It’s too bad most of the pertinent pictures in the thread are now no longer available.

Next time, consider starting a new thread instead of posting a question on an outdated thread about a 50th anniversary.

My guess is the pictures are not available because they are not hosted on the OGR Forum.

I really liked the show, but was never a fan of trainwrecks, real or toy trains! I know I should "lighten up" but I just cannot watch real or simulated destruction of our wonderful models! LOL! When friends find out I am a train person, they inevitably mention the show and those scenes and they are disappointed I am not a fan! Oh well, c'est la vie!

Yep, that’s definitely the reason. My guess is that the photos were hosted by PhotoBucket, which has since unhosted photos from submitters who didn’t want to pay the exorbitant rates PhotoBucket was charging people for a previously free service.

I don't recall any layouts on the Munsters, just George Barris hot rods and some "real gassers" at that  ..as in lots of drag racing

Tough call on if Grandpa was cooler than Gomez because of that, but I liked The Addams Family much better overall and if a show ended without trains being run, I was disappointed for sure.

There is this copy below, minus the "pool table"(?-looks like a very nice pool table with corner tassels to me). I'm pretty sure this belongs to a forum member, but I forget who now.  But I either found discrepancies while watching clips, or there are three or more layouts used counting for close ups(at least one clip I see 0-27, not O. Some others dont match up to any area on either of them).  There were two main layouts, Super O and O.  One got wrecked, had to be replaced.  Twilght Zone's episode "The Night Of The Meek" starring Art Carney as the "Original Bad Santa" , opens with kids in a toy store watching the very same layout. And Lionel built it fyi. The engines are Santa Fe carbodies, M&StL GP9 2348 (?number?) , a 2037 Adriatic, and a few other steamers too  There is a culvert loader, lionel flag, news stand, schedule board, crossing gate, flagman shack, horse corral,  tower, and I dont recall off hand the one next to the horses and either something is missing there, or the flag belongs there and something is missing...??.  The flag is part of a raised concrete square or platform, etc... still tired this a.m..

I actually did a version on scarm and posted it; but so many of my old posts and pics are gone I'm not sure it exists anymore.  To be honest, I thought I had posted that to this thread as well, but maybe I missed that one before landing here.

I liked the Addams Family, didn't care for the Munsters or even watch the show more than a couple of times when it originally aired. If I come across an episode channel surfing, I will watch it once in a while now.

While I loved seeing the trains, they weren't important to my overall enjoyment of the show.
I believe that one of the locos they used was a 2348, so once I became familiar with collectable Postwar Lionel, I always got a kick out of seeing them "wreck" such a collectable engine. I forget what the other pieces were.
I think they always used the same clip for the train crash.
Writing this has me thinking of a scene where the trains were hooked to a light bulb and were being powered by Uncle Fester.
