The K5s have always been a favorite of mine. In doing some general research about this particular model, it seems that all the releases, regardless of year, feature the "s" shaped tender drawbar, and the outside framed trailing truck. (These features make them look like the earlier #310 model.) All models, that is,except for three. The 1947 312 and both the 312AC and 314AW from 1949 show the straight drawbar, with the rather plain-looking truck without the outside frame.

Does anyone out there have a theory as to why this is?

Just a little something to ponder other than if Lionel will make a Thomas or not...
