Among a bunch of trains that I recently acquired was a threesome of American Flyer cars, a 3172 observation and two 3171 Pullman's.  These are green.  I've restored them to running condition (lighted), bent everything back to approximately correct shapeand polished the brass, but two roofs are missing.

I'd liek to get an opinion on the quality and collectability of these cars from someone who knows prewar American Flyer.  Is anyone who might be able to help me going to the Manchester TCA show next weekend.  If you are the man I'm looking for, please get in touch, mlaughlinnyc@yahoo.com.

Are these the cars that you are referring to?

American Flyer cataloged these cars in this color combination for at least 4 years, so they are not particularly uncommon. They show up on ebay in various conditions frequently.  I would say that the cars mentioned by OverlandFlyer are probably at the top of the price range.  I know I have never paid more than that for any car of this type.  Condition is always one of the keys to price; completeness is another.  Can you post any photos of them?
