I have a large motor 326 Hudson in EX condition and good to go back on the hi-rails except it fried a tiny wire inside its speaker and I can not repair it.  I would prefer to replace the speaker with an operational original P/N XA11B831 (see photo).  The original large yellow capacitor is still good.  So I have a couple of questions for you.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Does anyone have an original XA11B831 sale?  It's OK if it is used as long as it will work (i.e. continuity across all three posts VCF, with 5.4-5.5 ohms resistance between C and F).  Please contact me offline if you do.  Thanks.

If not, and I endeavor to replace it with modern parts instead, will the following do the job?  Any appropriately sized 8ohm speaker (preferably in an enclosure of some kind for sound quality) with a bi-polar 100microfarad capacitor installed inline with one of the two leads going to the speaker (as opposed to across the speaker contacts), with one post of the speaker wired to the rear truck and the other to the front truck?  There is no resistor in the original.  Can/should that remain the case?  I've noticed some original Gilbert ACW and diesel horns with both a cap and resistor.  Why some with, and without?

Thanks again.  I appreciate your help.  This engine would make AC proud -- fast, strong, smooth, and smokey.  Unfortunately for now also silent.

in case you're interested, I found that a Dallee #664 oval speaker fits neatly, works well, and sounds great -- even with the original AF capacitor.  See attached photos and video.  The only modification required is to clip off two corners of the 664 to allow room for it to clear the two chassis mounting posts toward the rear of the tender's shell.  If ever an original speaker shows up, it's a snap to install that since nothing else, not even the capacitor leads need to be modified.  The 664 is held in place with a piece of 3M VHB double-sided sticky tape (Radio Shack P/N 64-2361, while they're still around).  Very strong adhesion.  Thicker tape or a thicker pad may not work in terms clearing the underside of the rear deck of the tender, but the VHB places it in just the right position.
