All Nation Prairie Steam Locomotive

Sounds like Carey boilers.  You might research them for photos.

I haven’t been able to turn up much.  Evidently there were two runs, the first ones are much more scare then the second was done because the casting dies were damaged. I found a couple pictures on a google search but not a clear side view of each one.  I’m mostly curious how much smaller the 4-6-0 firebox was.

I think this is the Carey boiler 2-6-2. I looked for one of these for a while but never found one.

I think it is a reasonable stand-in for a Burlington 2-6-2.    I have a book on Burlington, and they had a large fleet of 2-6-2s.    A friend of mine had a pair of All Nation 2-6-2s with the Carey boiler.    He had assembled and painted them very nicely for his personal Kentucky Central.    They were really nice and I liked them a lot.   I put in an order  with All Nation through a local shop for one but they were not available at the time.    After a few years I changed direction, and the shop was willing to change the order to a Central Loco Works PRR H10 instead.    That kit arrived within a few months and I still have it built up and painted.

Prrjum, what driver center material does your CLW H-10 have? Apologies for thread drift.

You will find that a super detailed model of this loco won Model of the Month. in Model Railroader, it had a Vanderbilt tender, and nicely weathered. looked great. Now what year and month was that??? Ill see if I can find it.      cTr...( Choose the Right )

In spite of the photo distortion, they are both the same size.  Differences in firebox and walks.

At one point in time BTS had announced plans to revive the kit for this locomotive with a resin boiler. That apparently never came to fruition.

j2morris -- thank you for the pictures, that's exactly what I was looking for.  I attached pictures of what I have, they both appear to be Prairie  locomotives boilers.  The partially completed one I just picked up recently.  Sorry about all the dust, that was after a quick brushing.  It was really dusty.  There is a box of parts with it and I think probably enough to put it together. The walks do not look cast on with the partially completed one.  For one thing they are thinner, but that could have been from filing.

I will probably modify the firebox on one of them to make a 4-6-0.  Thanks again to everyone!

Anybody know whether they were pewter or just lead?

Mine are clearly Pewter alloy as they are much too hard to be lead

I don't know what they are made of but I agree it is much to hard to be lead.  They seem to be made out of the same material as all the other castings All Nation used.

Pretty sure that would be one of the Zamac formulations.

Well I was wrong, the model I mentioned earlier, or above wasn't " Model of the Month " but it got a full mag sized pic in Dec 1979 MR the model was by Ron Grander well worth a look If you have access. I remember Carey made HO boilers, but I never knew that they did O scale. Learned something new.
