Ameri-Towne Buildings

I use the inexpensive acrylic paints from Hobby Lobby, Michaels or other craft stores. Many selections for about $1 or so a bottle. It has worked well for me on my Ameri-Towne buildings. They have almost an entire isle (several brands) of this stuff and just about any color you want. Some is more expensive, but I usually just get the less expensive ones.

 

Those are excellent buildings, very well made of heavy plastic and nice details. 

I can't speak to the ameritown buildings specifically (wow, they are quite affordable!) but I use craft latex paints on polystyrene building kits quite often.  My favorite brand is "Delta Ceramcoat" which seems to cost about 20 cents more per bottle, but is the best pigmented and the smoothest to apply.

 

For fast painting, I often use colored spray paints or primer.  The Krylon Camoflage line has quite a few greys, greens and tans that are dead flat.  The Krylon primer line has nice light grey, dark Grey and "Ruddy Brown" which is a great brick color.  I built a Walthers Engine shed (HO&hellip a while back and used teh Ruddy Brown as my base before drybrushing.

 

Just use quick light coats (a couple of light coats is better than 1 too-thick coat) and you'll be fine.

Make sure you prime the walls or wash them. I prime with the cheap Walmart grey paint for about 1 dollar a can. Then paint from there. Or Rattle Can the walls the color you want. 

They are excellent buildings and I have scratched built those buildings for many uses!

with the brick, I rattle can the red I want, then 'wash' the walls with the mortar colour I want.. either a light grey or tan and that fills in the mortar lines.. let it dry, then spray with a clear matt or dull coat.. then if there are other feathers like the windows sills etc, I paint them with an acrylic suggested above and off I go. Experiment with your first one and see what works best for you, they are cheap enough rich will be happy to sell you another

I use the cheapo 1 buck spray cans (Menards, etc ) in white and black as well. I'll have to get to Walmart because 1 buck grey seems to have disappeared at Menards and Home depot and K-Mart -which was my main source- has gone under under. Thanks for the heads-up!

 

What do product do you use for the mortar?

They are really great buildings, nicely priced and easy to kit bash if you are so inclined.

 

Here are some flats I painted using an airbrush and thinned craft paint. I added the window detail with a brush. 

 

 

 

Give some thought to the color combinations you want and then let your creativity loose and enjoy!

 

 

I have been carefully triming down Ameritown buildings to get the windows to be spaced better when one panel is grafted next to another. I really feel like the spacing looks much better correctly spaced rather than a little off.

 

Here are two that I started you can see that I cut a bit off of both sides in the center panel and the left or right for the side edges as needed. The all plain brick front had a bit of an explosion on the way though my saw (it is kind of hiding under the sign the broken sashes kind of give it away) so my advise is be careful. I want to add a lower story storefront to the more fancy front.
