This set is in the upcoming Lionel Catalog. Its a military theme.  The USA vendor has a new technique for decorating the sides of boxcars.  Its a painted process but not pad printing or decals.  They essentially run the car under a high-tech ink jet printer and in one swoop its done.  It worked very well on the Presidential Boxcars.  I was impressed.

I assume the flyer set might be boxcars with decorated sides and perhaps a docksider or Geep.

There is a good video on LCCA's youtube channel in which Jerry C talks about the current China production issues and Lionel's attempt to get some manufacturing back in the US. This was an interview had at the recent LCCA convention. He specifically mentions the made in the US American Flyer set.  Jerry states that Lionel will most likely not return all production back to the US, but hopes to get about half back here at some time in the future.  Time will tell I guess.

What I was wondering, sense S Gauge/scale is supposed to be the quickest growing segment, I wonder if this product line would be prime for US manufacturing?  I could see how it could be a PITA to get some of Lionel's current O Gauge tooling back from over seas...where the new S product that Lionel seems to getting prepared to make could start and end here.  How cool would that be?

Ben
