Hi guys,

did American Flyer make a set including a 1218 with a 1103 and 1104? Found one with the earlier handrails and rear-mounted bell with the four wheel 1103 and 1104 coaches.

  • Engine is black with red windows
  • Early handrails
  • Single pick-up roller
  • Has shiny replacement wheels. Likely MEW.
  • Rear-mounted bell
  • 1103 and 1104 in dark green, with four wheels
  • Roofs are more angular, not round like later cars

Thanks,

Alex

Are you sure it is a 1218 engine, ie does it have a headlight?  If no headlight, it is a 1201 engine.

American Flyer cataloged set 1201 from 1921 through 1924, which featured a 1201 engine and the 4 wheel 1103/1104 cars.

In 1925 the set number changed to 1202 and featured a 1218 with those cars.  However, the catalog artwork clearly shows the later hand rails.

The 1218 engines (ie engines with headlights) in the 1921 through 1924 era were only cataloged with 8 wheel cars.

Just looked at the pictures, and it is a 1218 with early handrails. Will post pictures once it arrives.
