I just picked up a "restored" Pre War Locomotive and cars at a TTOS show this morning. Took it home. The engine sticks in forward or reverse mostly, and has a grinding sound. Second, I'm running it on MTH RealTrax at home. Will this make a difference?

Be good to know what loco it is? Pictures are helpful.
The track should not really matter although the transformer may be underpowered depending on what it is.
Oil and grease might be in order.
The grinding noise could be the wheei flanges striking the ties. ,Put a business card under the engine and on the ties. The flanges should not make a mark on the card.

The reverse units never operated all that well on prewar flyer engines. Best option is to lock it in forward, provided there is a lockout for the reverse unit.
