Working on this 4678 Flyer wide gauge motor and when I took off the brush holder I noticed this geared rotating device? Is this for some kind of bell ringing device?
I suspect it is related either to the bellringer (if you have one) or the automatic reverse (if it has it). Both of those items are separate from the rotating piece, but I examined my Shasta and it has the same rotating piece and has both a bellringer and automatic reverse. I can only guess that it is related to one of those features. However, I am not an expert on Standard Gauge Flyer.
