We're visiting Indy next month and I'm a huge fan of the Amtrak Superliners. Have any of you been to the Amtrak repair facility? Do they have any Amtrak cars you can walk thru and get "up close and personal with?"

We've ridden in one of the economy bedrooms in a Empire Builder Superliner from Chicago to East Glacier and back but that's been awhile ago and they may have new versions of the Superliners, not the same models that we rode in.

Let me know if there are any "don't miss" train-related sites in Indy. There is one big O scale train dealer in Indy but I can't recall the name or location. Might have to stop there as well.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide. email in profile.

I've ridden a number of times. Two most recent in the link below. And I too love travel via Superliner.....but these guys are getting pretty old and unchanged....other than the in room radio does not work. Other than that the are the same as they have been for a LONG time.

It would be neat if Amtrak had a Superliner that traveled around to show folks what they are like......but buying a ticket is the only way right now.

One has to realize that the Superliners have all been in regular service longer and have more miles on them than all the postwar cars they replaced. And while the Viewliner IIs are intended to replace many in the next few years, many more years are expected before the last are gone.

It wasn't a slam on the Superliners.....just the truth....I still pay the $2000 a year to ride them.....and I'd NOT do that if there was a major issue. If you read my 2013 blog you will note toilets not working on my last trip....but this was due to a service person at ABQ doing something wrong rather than the age of the cars.

During Amtrak railroad days they usually have super liners on public display. Toledo Amtrak always puts on a good show. Once a year event, system wide.
